A common device used to help manage sleep apnea is the CPAP machine, which stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. With many different machines on the market... there is a variety in choices.

Which CPAP machine do you use? What are the pros and cons of your CPAP machine?

I use the dreamstation by Philips. I greatly enjoy it compared to my old one, which I had for years and got rid of last year. I enjoy the Dreamstation CPAP because it is easy to use and offers more features:  SmartRamp which automatically works to adjust pressure (makes me sleep easier), LCD screen that shows trends of progress, and BlueTooth Capability, which I have not really used yet.

Hey @sleepy‍ how do you like the dreamstation? What was the old one you used to have?

I was looking into that one the other day. I am using the now discontinued model from Philips, the RemStar Plus. What I enjoy about this one is that it is very small and compact, so when I do travel it is not very difficult to pack it. The Dreamstation is larger, but it seems to have more modern look, user friendly, and modern technology.

Mine is called a SystemOne.  I hate using a CPAP but I can't lie down and breath without it.  It's got me very dependent on it.  Sometimes just sitting I feel like I need it on.  I think my pressure is on 15 which I always thought was high but I've of other people with a higher pressure.  I'm on nasal pillows right now but have used the small mask over the nose.  I'm not crazy about either one but...

@dercota‍ yes. I hate the "CPAP"... Mine is atleast small, but the intrusiveness is the same with all machines. I am a mouth breather so the face mask always worked most for me, but the doing anything in bed with it is a pain, like reading, working on the laptop, watching IPAD, etc.

I have the Philips Dreamstation. It's the only kind i've had.  Tried at least 10 different masks...cannot find any I like.  I give anything to find a better way.

@Rcintolo I had a hard time finding a mask I liked. I ended up going for a nasal pillow mask because I couldn't handle having a full face one on all night, it made me feel claustrophobic. I also move quite a bit in my sleep so the nasal one was the best option for me.

I was switched from a cpap to a bipap. Not sure if I like it better or not yet.

I have the Dreamstation Auto and love it. The key for me was finding the right "mask" I have the dreamwear setup where the hose attaches to a swivel on the top of my head, it makes hose management a breeze and movement while sleeping tangle free. I started out with the nasal cushion and switched to the gel pillows as they are shaped more like my nostrils and I don't feel restriction on my breathing like I used to.

Dream station auto.  I've used a Dreamstation before but didn't like it because even after a couple of pressure adjustments by my doctor, it just wasn't working out for me.  I gave up on it but about a year later, I changed both  my doctor and DME providers and was in introduced to the auto version.  My pressure changes a lot so the auto keeps up with it very nicely.  The downside to using a CPAP is usually the mask.  I have to use a full face mask because I am a mouth breather and chin straps are too confining and usually work off during the night sometimes pushing my mask over and causing major leaks.  Plus, the sides of my nose near my eyes are sometimes rubbed raw and I have to use a foam rubber mask which is expensive and wears out quickly.  So, at my next visit to the DME, I'm going to see what else I can try perhaps like a hybrid nasal/full face mask that will not rub the sides of my nose off.
