Getting a good night's sleep and having good sleep hygiene are some of the difficulties many people with sleep apnea face; however, thanks to a fairly new area in technology, applications and devices can now assist individuals in monitoring and tracking sleep and sleeping patterns.

The most common ways to monitor and track your sleep are through (1) sleep apps for your phone, such as SleepScore, Sleep Cycle, Sleep Tracker 24/7, and/or Sleep Time; (2) fitness trackers, such as the Apple Watch, Fitbit, Oura Ring and/or Motiv Ring; and (3) Smart Beds and Sleep Sensors, such as Withings Sleep, Tomorrow Sleeptracker, SleepScore Max, and/or iFit Sleep HR.

How about you?

Do you use any device or application to monitor and track your sleep and sleeping patterns? If so, what technology do you use? What benefits have you seen?

Funny you ask. I do not, but I have been contemplating getting one of those rings or fitbit watches just for this reason. However, I did not know there existed applications for your phone? Do that applications require any other device or is it just the application itself? How does it know if you are truly sleeping?

@CAkid78 Oh yeah there are a bunch of apps out there. The one I tried you basically tell the app when you're going to sleep, then you flip the phone over and put it under your pillow or next to you in the bed and it tracks your sleep based on movement I think. It's not as accurate as like a ring or watch like a Fitbit that tracks your movement and pulse. I tried it but didn't use it for very long because I didn't really like the idea of having my phone next to my head all night and then it kept falling off the bed so it would miss a large chunk of the night. My kids got me into Fitbit and I think it's way more accurate. Depending on the one you have, it can show you your sleep cycles. It's really interesting to see how I sleep with my CPAP vs without. I definitely recommend if you're interested in your sleep and also your fitness.

I use sleep cycle and my Apple Watch. It lets me know how many times I am waking up each night and if I need to contact my sleep dentist about the next size elastics for my EMA oral appliance. I am currently waking up anywhere from 3-8 times a night.

The only downside is if you do not move much it thinks you are deep sleeping. I get little to no deep sleep and no REM sleep.

I have used the My Air app on iPhone since beginning BiPAP . I like to know how many events I have each night. The other info it tracks with my ResMed Airsense 10 isn't really that useful, but I do check it daily.

I use my fitbit watch and my resmid air app. I have been scoring between 100 and 98 out of 100. I have earned several gold stars as well.

I also make sure my machine and accessories stay clean.

@CAkid78 Hi in answering your question depending on what machine you have you can download an app that will sync to your machine and it will record your sleep activity. You are then able to check your score the next morning. You can also go to the main website on a computer to check your score as well.

I have a resmid cpap machine. I downloaded the myair app put info in and it syncs to my machine. I check every morning to see what my score is.

I hope this helped answer your questions.

@SabinaYetta52 Thanks so much for this, I'll look and see if there's an app compatible with my machine. I ended up getting a fitbit watch but didn't like it so I gave it to my daughter, so I'll have to look into this.

Yes, with my cpap manufacturer instructions,  came a link to a website that was in the play store apps. I see the information that my sleep apnea dr would be recieving on how I did during the night. I like this app.
