This forum is incredibly helpful. To combat depression, simply schedule a session with a therapist. If the medicine isn't working, consider spravato treatment.

Hello out there. I am a dedicated father of 4 awesome kiddos. My girls are 11 & 9, and my boys are 7 & 5. My marriage was 8 years of chaos, but I've been divorced for 5 years now, and things are much better that we are week to week. My oldest daughter asked me to stop dating, so I have for the last year, which has been difficult, because I have been codependent most of my life. I'm trying so hard to stick with this, because I see how it has been good for me and them. However, I have been stuck in tremendous depression for about six months. My children even asked me to tell them a story from my childhood the other night and I could only think of terrible things from my childhood. I'm concerned because I couldn't think of one good memory to tell them about. The winter has been slow, and I just can't afford counceling right now, but any advice/words of wisdom would be appreciated. I have to continue to be here for them, but I need to be okay myself...

Beleveled - I just wanted to tell you that you sound like a very nice, caring, intelligent, astute, and well spoken person. You putting you children first shows tremendous character, which is not easy to find in this world. Your children are very fortunate to have you. Keep loving them. You will be ok.

@kjblue1952 CBD did nothing for my anxiety and major depression.  I got the medical card for weed but it's not covered by insurance and very expensive.  It did help some though. Best wishes to you.

@Rosebgyrl I feel like I just read my own journal. I'm. 49 yr old woman who's been living woth depression since my teens. For years my depression would come and go. Sometimes staying away for years but for the last 6yrs I've struggled. That's because I had a mental breakdown and now bipolar depression is here to stay. I take meds but feel like they are not doing the job anymore. I just feel extremely sad and nothing brings me joy. Nothing! I have a 14 yr old daughter and three older children. They know I struggled but they don't know how yo help me. How can they if they don't understand? I don't think I'll ever be a normal happy person again. And that makes me more depressed knowing that

@Ms.BK  your story sounds similar to mine. I was diagnosed with depression in my teens. I'm 38 now, after what I would consider a mental breakdown last year, it has been a struggle to function daily. No one seems to understand. I even have some family members tell me to just "be happy" I joined this site today just looking for support. I would love to talk with you or anyone reading this.

@Rosebgyrl You can talk to me. I'm Jackie. 59 years old. I've suffered with depression/anxiety my whole life. It's not a weakness to talk to a therapist or someone like that. I don't know if you are on meds. You are not alone. You can get through this. I don't know your background or what you've been through. But there is hope.

@beleveled I know therapy costs money. I would check with your county and see if there are places to go that operate on a sliding scale with your income. It's great talking to a friend, but there's times you need to talk to a professional. I'm codependent also. My husband is now in a nursing home. I've taken care of people my whole life and now it feels weird not to have to take care of anyone but myself.

Why doesn't your daughter want you to date? I mean, you are divorced. You can't just take care of your kids. You need a life also.

I'm here if you ever want to talk.
