This forum is incredibly helpful. To combat depression, simply schedule a session with a therapist. If the medicine isn't working, consider spravato treatment.

@AnissaS ive always had the issue of bottling up my feelings and always listening to others and trying to help them rather than myself. a giant step I have taken this year is to not bottle things up. try to start saying what youre thinking as soon as the thought comes into your head, good or bad. I have found that this releases so much negative energy I keep inside my head and definitely relieves a bit of my anxiety. you have to change your mindset. stop thinking about how what you do is going to affect others. think about how you can do better for yourself. it sounds a bit selfish, but speaking my mind more often and making my thoughts known to others has really helped with my anxiety. if someone is doing something you don’t like, instead of holding in your anger and annoyance and letting it ruin your mood for the rest of the day, say something. don’t be rude, but releasing your feelings will definitely make you feel better! I hope this helped you, have a great day or night:)

@NanGram I understand what youre saying, the pain of depression is a different kind of pain, the worst kind. its a kind of pain that you can’t really see, just feel. that’s what makes it so bad. what has helped me with depression is picking up a hobby and trying to put all of your time and effort into that hobby. for me, that hobby is going to the gym. for me, getting out of bed and making myself even want to go anywhere is the worst part. I want to just lay in bed all day. but as soon as I make myself get up and get dressed, walking into the gym is totally worth it. I think its actually scientifically proven that exercising puts you in a better mood. when I go to the gym, I feel a bit better about myself. of course it doesn’t erase all of my pain but it definitely helps. I hope this helps you and I hope you can find a hobby that you can put your time into!

@shorty‍

Well you kinda said you can help out. I have bad anxiety along with major depression and bi polar. So my moods thoughts and feelings are usually all over the place. I'm on alot of med right now but it only seems to help some things while others seem to get worse. I don't have really anyone to talk to So it mostly just sits in my head and goes round and round. Im really getting sick of only thinking negetive thoughts. I never said this but I really don't like myself. If I do something nice for someone or something it makes me feel good for a couple seconds and then it's back to thinking how worthless I feel . ive had deppresion for yrs and been hospitalized like 6 or 7 times and I feel ok when I'm gonna leave the hospital usually but within a couple of days its back to the same negetive feelings about life and myself. I always think am I really gonna have to feel like this for the rest of my life and if so then what is the point. I really need some type of improvement in my life . I use to be an addict and alcoholic and ive been clean for a long time but its making me feel like I should just say f it and go back out again. The thing is I understand its not gonna help anything but it keeps coming to mind anyways.

Well thanks for listening. Have a good night. Sry for the rambling

Hi Mark,

Hang in there.  I have also been in the hospital a few times but I realized that made me worse because I did not have the freedom to move around like I do on the outside.  Stay clean because drugs and alcohol do not help.  I am always here if you want to talk.

Thanks for replying. I know ur right about the drugs and alcohol. My mind just goes to stupid crap when I'm feeling really down and out. I'll keep fighting the wrong feelings and try to have some good ones.

Can I ask you something?

What do you do to keep busy or how do you change your thoughts from bad ones to good ones.

Have a good day and try to smile a bit 👍😊

That is a very good question.  Do you have a computer?  Do you have friends or relatives you can talk to?  What I do when I get really bored is sleep.  I spend most of my time in bed watching TV because sometimes it helps to keep my mind off things and it sometimes puts me to sleep.  You can try that.  I don't know where you live but if you live in a warm climate, you can go out for a walk.  I live in NY and it is cold here so I don't have that chance.  It helps when you go out though because it takes your mind off things.  I went out shopping with my husband the other day and I felt better when I got outside.  As far as the bad thoughts, I don't get many of those.  Do you have any hobbies?  Do you work?  If not, try to do what I am doing now.  I applied for 2 volunteer jobs to keep me busy and they want me to come in for an interview.  I am going to do that as soon as I can.  A few hours a day, couple of days a week.  I had a volunteer job before but I got sick so I had to quit.

Like you said, have a good day and try to smile.

@shorty‍ , I’m sorry that you suffer from depression. I have been suffering with if for decades. I lived in NY until 1984. It does get even more depressing in the Winter. I’m a retired LPN and I’m home all day alone. The depression has become worse in the last couple of weeks. I have very few friends because I’m not up to driving. It throws me into a panic attack. Do you suffer from anxiety and panic as well?

I suffer from anxiety but not panic.  My anxiety starts when I start obsessing about things. I don't know how to turn it off.  I know when I get depressed like I am now, I feel like I want to die.
