I had a lumpectomy to remove a small tumor, that could only have been found in my mammogram ,2 weeks ago, They did not find cancer cells in my lymph nodes. Just found out today that I am going to have chemo every 3 weeks for 6 rounds for HER2 and hormone positive receptive blockers medication, and radiation.  After the 6 rounds it will be further apart but continue for a year.  I’m happy it’s aggressive in a way so it hopefully never comes back!!! But seems overwhelming to have so much going on in treatment.  Is it easier than it sounds? Any advice on being prepared more when I start treatment in September?

Hi @CinCin‍ ... was your chemo, hormone, and radiation treatment not discussed prior to your lumpectomy? If not, I can definitely understand how this would be a shocker.

I had a mastectomy plus chemo. The need for radiation and chemo from my understanding comes from the size of the tumor... the larger the tumor, the more likely adjunct therapy will be needed in addition to the lumpectomy.

I am not too familiar with the need for hormone receptive blockers, though.

Thanks, I didn’t know about the radiation but I did the other treatments. But a time frame wasn’t listed for chemo, I figured it would be 1/2 year not a year, my tumor was very small but I guess because of the HER2 they wanna go harder on it. I’m getting used to the idea now, just thinking of it as extra insurance they get all the cancer cells that might be floating around.

Hi @CinCin‍ That is a good way to think about it! I am sure it must be nerve wrecking. When in September does the treatment start? Hope everything goes well and encourage you to use this site and forums as a mode of support throughout.

My first one is set for September 10th. Yes, the main thing is not knowing how my body will react to it.  I do Home health care for the disabled n elderly.  I’m hoping I don’t have to miss work, my people will miss me, and I’ll miss them.  😢
