I got yelled at by someone this morning (like a lot of yelling), and he was in the wrong, and I wasn't doing anything wrong at all, but it just set me off. He was also recording me as well as a few other people in their cars (it had to do with school drop off). I had to turn my car around, come back home, and cancel my appointment. I called my husband who said everything I already knew, "who cares if you got yelled at. you were not doing anything wrong. What is he going to do about it?" but I just could not calm down. I'm still super upset an hour later.

I don't know if this has to do with my bipolar disorder, anxiety, or just my personality. I do not react well when I get yelled at. I usually just cry and feel terrible, and it is hard to get over. Does anyone else experience this? How do you get on with what you need to do. I don't want to go out in the world with it being obvious that I have been crying, and I get super on edge afterwards, and little things could set me off again.

Hi @Laurenlaw, thank you for sharing with us. I can imagine how stressful that would have been, being yelled at in public and being filmed is just awful!

Can anyone else relate to this? When something bad or stressful happens to you, do you ever find that it takes over the rest of your day? How do you get through situations like this? Is there anything you do that helps you to manage the stress, feelings, adrenalin, re-picturing the moment in your mind?

I can relate. If I have one unexpected thing happen in a day or a wrong comment come my way, I am done. There are times I have to shut down in my room for a few hours.

I often have the "stop the world, I want to get off" feeling. So, I basically stop the world by ignoring the telephone and/or the doorbell if they ring, retreating into my bedroom to read in bed and hopefully doze off for awhile or sitting in the living room playing the Music Choice channel on TV. I put on light classical, lean back into my recliner, close my eyes, and let the music wash over me as I choreograph dance movements in my mind's eye. However, no matter what method I choose I'm then able to relax and accept that there are some factors contributing to my stress that I absolutely cannot control, such as what other people are saying/doing. That's when the "whatever" mind set kicks in, enabling me to relax and accept what is rather then stress out thinking of what it should be but isn't.

I totally agree with ncleanatol. Do something for yourself. It's them having the bad attitude/ day not you.
