I'm a mother of 6 children ages 4-15, I used to be that mom that had the spotless house, empty laundry baskets, and a hot meal cooked every night. Now it just takes every bit of energy I have to get up and take a shower. Is this normal with MS? I hate this person I've become and Ihate that my husband has to pick up so much slack... how can I change this?

Yes... completely normal. What type of MS do you have? During remissions you feel better, but for me I have never been like my old self. It takes everything during flares to do anything and when I am in remission, it is still not an easy task. I think multiple factors play into...the pain and wear on my body, the nerve pain, the mental fatigue and exhaustion, and depression. I am on medication for everything I mentioned, but still I am not my normal self.

Stay strong and be thankful to that husband.

I'm currently diagnosed with RRMS, but my dr found new lesions on my last scans and may diagnose me differently today! I've been on copaxone for 3 years and I feel like it's not helping at all... I'm being tested this week for jc virus and hopefully switching to Tysabri

I am sorry to hear that. During remissions do you feel more your self and able to do a better job in your viewpoint of being a "mom"? Or is this feeling constant?

Hi @MSmommy‍ what you are experiencing is very normal with MS. During remissions you usually feel a lot better; however, MS wears away at our bodies and creates lesions and attacks our central nervous system so it is very common to feel exhausted and not able to do the things you used to be bale to do with ease.

I try to push myself a bit more and more each day and focus on not getting depressed. But never over doing it to wear I am hurting even worse the next day or extremely wiped out the next day.

@MS_283 this is constant. However, my dr started me on a med called amitriptyline and I'm so excited to say that I haven't had any headaches in over a week.

@siemprelucha that's where I am right now. 6 kids is hard on ever the best of mom's and having ms on top of trying to be supermom is just throwing me for a loop. I don't think I'm depressed but I know I'm having some huge anxiety issues. My kids help a lot with hosehold chores but I just feel like a failure.
