My adult son was recently  diagnosed I n the past 6 months but has resisted traditional therapy as the side affects of the meds scare him. He doesn’t believe in therapy so is emotionally struggling with this. He is prone to anxiety & stress, has a young child and is really struggling. I’ve tried to convince him to join an on- line support group but he has not done so. What can I do to help him? My heart is breaking for him.

@Linda0513‍ sorry to hear about your son. Did he talk to a doctor about his worries? The medications do help with establishing remissions. I would recommend him speaking to the doctor and if he is adamant about not taking medications to reach out to others through online forums and see what options they use to help manage the symptoms.

Most I know do a combo of monitoring their triggers (like anxiety and stress) which can be done with medication, counseling, time management, life changes. etc. Speaking with others diagnosed with the condition may help him get some ideas.

He could join this forum or there are numerous other forums that exist for helping.

Hope all is well.

@wlkfree My son has an appointment tomorrow with his Dr. His wife is going with him armed with a list of questions..... he seems so angry about the whole thing. He doesn’t believe in therapy even though we have tried to get him to see the benefits..... I’m hoping the Dr. Can talk some sense into him.....

happy to hear that. Keep us updated! I can understand his fear, but medication does help.

Hi @Linda0513 medications definitely have their side-effects. He should discuss with the doctor alll the potential side-effects that the meds which the doctor may recommend may cause. But, at the same time, the meds can help you live a more normal life.

Hope the appt goes well tomorrow. I can understand your concerns as a mother.

Not sure now the dance with the insurance company is going on they don’t want to approve the Dr’s treatment plan because of course some bean counter knows more than the Harvard Trained Specialist......... it’s so freaking disheartening

@Linda0513‍ don't lose faith. I understand... insurance is a drag, but hopefuly the doctor can express the medical neccessity. Often they do. Is the doctor at least in network? That should help.

I was first diagnosed in 13 with severe pains and sent to the emergency room where my mother in law was told if she hadn't got me there I would have died. I have has 1\2 in of whatever removed and have never had any pain since.

My concern is this, I have been seeing the same gastroitis (spelling sucks) dr since then who at that time perscribed

welchol 25mg twice a day. In the past month he changed it to Budesnide CR 3 mg which I take 3 daily. My question is , is ths correct meds I should be taking or in the past 5 yrs should I be on something else?
