@Happyness‍

I don’t have bipolar, but I have a close friend who does. What he does to show how he loves is by expressing his greatest fears and feelings. Showing how he is so afraid to hurt me cuz of his mental state but by saying this is showing that he cares. And by me providing him comfort shows how much I care. Even the simple things can help express how you feel. Provide a hug. Live every day like it’s your last and share how you feel about them when you are truly your self. Even just spending time with the person you care for and helping them out shows love.  This is difficult but it is possible.

@Tiffany I have bipolar disorder and I actually have the opposite problem; I am so infatuated, needy and nearly obsessive due to mania. I have more highs than lows but when I have my lows they are LOW. When I’m having a depressive episode, I do not want to be touched or talked to and will say hurtful things. The people around me know me well enough to know my triggers and they have learned to understand. My boyfriend has been with me for over 3 years through thick and thin including many hospitalizations. He will sit me down and force me to talk it out and it actually does make things better. These times make me appreciate the people in my life so much more. When I need my space, they understand but watch me from afar to make sure I don’t act on my depression.

The best thing to do is be honest and apologize for your actions that are caused by this awful disease. The only times I am aggressive is if we get into an argument and I get blinded by rage or if I drink too much. I don’t drink anymore for many reasons but that’s definitely one of them. Also, therapy and medication have really kept this disorder under control for me for the most part. I take lamictal, trazodone and Klonopin. I recommend discussing this with your psychiatrist as well. I’m sorry if I am not much help on this topic, please feel free to ask me any further questions. Sending hugs Xx

@Kristina_M @Tiffany‍

@Happyness‍

Try to explain your condition, but at the same time do not use it as as a crutch. We have to try and be the best person to our caregivers and loved one's we can; however, of course our conditions are going to affect us emotionally and socially and when hurt is caused - such as acting out - or we ask too much from them - like dependency - we need to aknowedge their feelings and explain the condition and explain that we are trying our best and will continue to try and do better. From experience, we must actually TRY though and not just say the words and that may be in the form of self assessment, speaking to counselors, joining a support group that meets in person (for me a church group used to help).

I hope I was able to lend some insight.

Thank you so much my dear friend. I'm Italian and I couldn't understand every single word you wrote, but I could catch the meaning. And I found it wonderful and right. You helped me so much
