Hi @AlissamF,
Thank you so much for sharing this, it truly takes a lot of courage to speak so honestly about how anxiety and irritability turn up, especially when you’re trying to be present for your children. These conditions can put your nervous system in a state of constant alert, and a lot of times, getting irritated is a sign of being overwhelmed rather than a lack of love or effort. You thinking about this so deeply already says a lot about the kind of parent you are. 🩵
To open this up to others in the community:
- Have you noticed irritability increasing when your anxiety spikes, especially while parenting or caregiving?
- What has helped you calm those moments, even slightly, when medication isn’t the route you want to take every time?
- How do you talk to yourself afterwards, when guilt or frustration creeps in?

I have schizoaffective bipolar type, bpd, GAD, and complex ptsd. When im really anxious I get irritated so easily and often. Im trying to keep from taking so much as needed medication for anxiety, any tips or ideas of how to deal? I have 2 young active kids and I want to be good mommy, and not grouchy mommy. Im struggling and I don't want it to affect my kids.
