Hi everyone, I was recently diagnosed and I'm not doing well right now (and the current situation isn't helping me mentally). I'm scared to go out, I'm scared to talk to friends and family, and I don't really know who/where to turn to. I was hoping to maybe talk to some people on here?

@fairy_ Hello fairy_, thank you for starting this thread, this is exactly what Carenity is for: to create a space for people to share and connect with each other about their disease and find support.
Hello everyone, let's use this space to share with and support one another. When were you diagnosed? How are you doing today? Feel free to share your story, experiences, or any advice you may have.

I was diagnosed in Nov 2019...It hasn't been long since I've known. I feel a lot better now that I've been on meds. I feel off some days and some days I'm ok. Still haven't processed it all completely.

It was a shock for me because they told me I did not have much time. I woke up to the priest doing my last rights in the hospital, so I asked him if he ever watched the movie ’ The Exorcist ’ then I looked at the window. He got the hint and he left the room. This was the time I told myself I want to live so I fought and I am here now...

@Belto64 Wow that's awful! I can't believe they brought a priest in like that. But good for you for telling him what's what
@fairy_ Hey, I know how you're feeling. I felt the same way when I was diagnosed. I was totally scare, lost, confused, you name it. But you know what? You can do this! Today I've honestly never been better. My CD4 is good and I'm unashamed about who I am or my status. You will get there.

Indeed, my T-cell was 5 when j was diagnosed with full-blown AIDS. This term is hardly used these days but I did sign a waiver at the hospital, the church just assumed... I have went thru a lot of stuff but am still here. Cheers!!!

@fairy_ How are you doing now? My story is a little different because I was diagnosed when I was a kid, but when I became truly aware of what HIV was, how I got it and what it meant for me and my life and remember feeling similar to you. Alone, angry, scared, ashamed, worried... you name it, I went through it. If you're taking your meds as you should you should be completely safe to live your life as normal. I know these times are hard and I can't imagine what the added stress of a global pandemic does when you're new to HIV and your levels are high, but know that you can get through this and you will be ok!

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. I'm doing a lot better honestly. I have some really great friends who have been here for me, and I think being stuck at home and having the time to process everything really helped. My CD4 was better at my last test so I have hope that I'm going to be ok. I hope you all are staying safe from all the craziness out there!
