Hi everyone. I am new to this. I’ve never been on any forums before... this is my first. My girlfriend and soon to be wife has lupus. I’m having a bit of a hard time emotionally

@Saguilar

Good morning, being the caregiver is a extremely hard role for anyone.  You can get rin down easily if you over do it... as rude as this sounds and I don't know your current situation but as hard as it is "Don't try yo be a "Super Caregiver ".  Please don't misunderstand me,  there will be times you have to be but you have a limit that once you cross over, it's hard to not feel overwhelmed and feel good and appreciate what you are able to do... now I'm saying this from experience,  if it doesn't apply and i hope it doesn't  then just ignore this.  Saying all this, there are support groups for caregivers and some really good articles/tips for the caregiver to use...

https://resources.lupus.org/collections/caregiver

And

https://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2014/03/6-caregiver.html

Just to get you started... you may know this already and you may know this too but here it is anyway: NO MATTER WHAT KIND OF DAY/S SHE HAS, YOU MAKE SURE SHE KNOWS SHE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD  AND YOU BRAG ON HER ALOT" what seems so simple to some is not so simple with lupus, it takes more energy and more thought processing.

One more thought on this lecture (and i didn't mean for it to come out this way) her and by connection your "new normal " may change daily or weekly; either way take it as a new adventure and dont either of you be sad about it for very long.  If you need a down day just to be sad,  that's ok but the next day find the goodness and the love you both have for each other

@Marglen

That is so sweet; I'm glad you found someone who provides support,  there isn't anything better. As you probably know, lupus is just the beginning,  you body and what impacts it and your mind changes constantly. After going through the divorce and my family not believing my ilnesses is "serious" i just don't want anyone else in my world. You are right,  i will be fine as long as i can

I suffer from Lupus and MS. It’s not unusual to have multiple autoimmune diseases. Your cognitive issues can be related but may be a different condition or could be Lupus cerebritis ... you may want to ask for a brain MRI in case no one has suggested it.  My cognitive/memory stuff (I repeat myself and other things) came with the last and largest MS lesion. They can calm those with steroid infusion or other things a good neurologist would know of.  While I avoid steroids and immune suppression as much as possible if you feel that worried you might ask. Good luck.
