My best friend is planning a wedding for her daughter. She graduated from college, found a boyfriend and is getting married. Her son did the same thing and now he has a baby. I have other friends whose kids did the same thing.

My kids are messed up because of the things I did and the money I spent when I was bipolar. I really hate myself.

Son # 1: Can't keep a job, girlfriend is leaving him, is going to move in with his ex-wife for a little bit until he gets is act together. He didn't follow any protocol that a normal person would. (He is extremely smart and has a very high IQ.

Son #2: Has high functioning autism and can't work so he is on state aid and living with me.

Son#3: Is doing great.

I am worried about everything, especially retirement finances, because I am 61.

I have been extremely depressed for 5 1/2 years and get break out of it even though I have a therapist, and on medication. I tried TMS, but it didn't work. I may try Stravato treatments, but the outcomes are not guaranteed with this drug either.

I feel like such a failure as a mother, and I know I did somethings that did shape their lives.

I want to give up and I feel so hopeless.

Hi @lrice999

How are you doing?

Remember to be kind to yourself. All parents try their best to raise their kids, and there is no perfect way to do it. We can never compare ourselves or our families to anyone else. Everyone is in a unique situation and is making due with what resources they have. Do not blame yourself!

Life can be very overwhelming sometimes-aging, finances, parenting, health- everyone is juggling a grab bag of situations. Take it one day at a time. It sounds like you have already targeted and are working on your mental health. Unfortunately, these things take time, but don't give up! Everyone is different, what works for some may not work for others. You just have to keep going with trial and error to find the outlet that helps you balance yourself.

You are doing great! Sometimes you may just need a reminder 🙂 I'll tag a few other members who may be able to share some of their own experiences.

What do you do to show kindness to yourself? How do you stay focused on your goals and not get distracted with comparing yourself to others?

Let's share some kind words!

Take care,

Lizzi from the Carenity team
