Hello everyone, hope you’re doing okay today 💙
Asthma is often described as a manageable condition, and for many, it is. But even with good control, unexpected threats can stir up anxiety and risk, especially when it comes to respiratory infections.
One of those threats? Whooping cough, also known as pertussis.
While it’s mostly known for affecting babies, whooping cough in teens and adults is often underdiagnosed. People might think it’s just a lingering cold or stubborn cough, but it’s highly contagious. And for people living with asthma, the risks are especially serious:
📌 You’re up to 4x more likely to catch pertussis if you have asthma.
📌 If you do catch it, you’re 40% more likely to be hospitalized.
That’s why experts are raising awareness of how vaccines, especially adult boosters, can help prevent dangerous complications in people with respiratory conditions.

Even if you’ve never thought about it before, this could be a good reminder to check your vaccine status, and talk to your doctor if needed. Your lungs deserve every bit of protection.
Take care and breathe easy,
Somya from the Carenity team 🌼
