Good advisor

Hello everyone,

Since the Coronavirus pandemic concerns many Americans (and Carenity members too), I've created this discussion to allow you to talk specifically about the virus in the context of Type 1 diabetes, as we all know that people with underlying health conditions can be more affected.

Are you worried about the coronavirus? Have you received any special instructions from your doctor regarding your care? Are you going to limit your travel? Do you have any advice for others?

Feel free to share your comments or questions below!

Take care,

Courtney

Good advisor

@Courtney_J Hi, yes I'm a little worried about this, not necessarily because I think that it will hit me worse than others, but mostly that I'm afraid that if I catch it I'll be too sick to properly monitor and handle my blood sugar. I don't have any big travel plans for the moment, but I've been trying to avoid crowded places and I've been washing my hands as often as I can.

@Judy349899  I've dealt with my stress about all of this by trying to plan as much as possible. My insurance waived their early refill limits, so I was able to refill my prescriptions and make sure that I'm stocked up glucose strips and everything else. I should be set for several weeks now if we all end up in mandatory quarantine at home.

Good advisor

Hello all, if you haven't already seen, yesterday we published an article explaining the coronavirus and the COVID-19 infection and summarizing some useful and information and links. There is some good information in there that can be the basis of your preparations before you talk with your healthcare provider. I'll link it below:

Coronavirus: What do you need to know?

Take care,

Courtney

@nestl! yes this is a good idea! i get my prescriptions through the mail so they come in 90-day batches. definitely grateful for that while i'm social distancing! @Judy349899‍ it may be too late to do know, but if you can, maybe try to talk to your doctor/insurance to set up mail-order prescriptions. it takes a lot of the stress off and it's been cheaper for me too. and of course it's a great way to limit human contact right now!

@Courtney_J Things have pretty much gone back to normal for me. I'm back at work (though we've been separated out a bit more at the office) and I've kind of gotten back my normal routine. I haven't ventured out to restaurants or stores yet because it just doesn't feel right to me yet, especially with the COVID numbers going back up, but grocery shopping and other things I do in a mask. Hope everyone is staying safe!

Good advisor

Hello everyone,

I thought I would come back to this discussion and see how everyone is doing as COVID-19 numbers have started to really escalate?

How are you holding up? Have you changed anything in your daily routine since the stay-at-home orders to help you stay safe? Have you had any advice from your doctor or medical team?

@Courtney_J Lol so I guess I should update from my last "it's going great" comments. My company went back to WFH when the numbers started going back up again and I've been struggling ever since. I have a hard time balancing my work and health and home life, especially during the holidays, so my blood sugar has been up and down. Is anyone else struggling?
