Hello Carenity Members,

I have seen in thedepression forums that there are many posts about people needing someone to talk to/listen to and feeling of overwhelemed with life or facing depression for various reason

I have created this discussion group and PINNED it so that it will remain at the top for people to do several things:

1) Those needing someone to talk to, can briefly state what they are struggling with - their situation - and that they would like to talk with someone.

2) Those who would like to listen/talk to someone else, can then private message that user directly and begin a conversation.

or

3) Those who have either overcome their depression to an extent or just really want to help and listen can also comment and say just that - basically offering themselves to be contacted.

I hope this helps open the communication and organize the forum as well. I think peer support is essential, especialy when in our own lives, perhaps we feel blocked out.

As always, there is the general forum for any and all other discussions.

If situation is very bad, please know your life is important and reach out to a medical professional or call Crisis Hotline at 1-800-273-8255

Thank you,

Lee__R

@Rileyelizabeth2 The first thing to do is get through an interview. There are jobs where you don't have to have a lot of interaction with people or have excellent public speaking skills. A lot depends on what kind of work you want to do. Find a friend or someone you feel comfortable with and have them help you with a practice interview. Finding your passion - what you really want to do - can help too - because then you are motivated to get over your fear and promote whatever passion you have. Maybe you want to work for a non-profit that helps bring dreams to life for people who are dying (like Make a Wish Foundation), as an example, something that you love so much that all your fears go out the window as you pursue the chance to fulfill dreams. I know it seems trite, but the only way to get over fears is to face them... which is often easier to say and harder to do

Thank you @LynndMS‍

So my story has a bit of the usual suspects for depression. Started with a very bad break up and just like stepping into quicksand I just started sinking.  Got overweight, lost energy, couldn't sleep well and basically lost my love for life in general.  After struggling with this demon for many years I somehow ended up giving up on myself and any dreams of happiness.  I had accepted my supposed lot in life and was content to just make it through the day.

2 months ago something happened though. While playing one of those app games on my phone I met someone.  As we played the game and chatted I begun to feel better about myself and the more we talked I began to dream about being happy again.  By just talking to someone it somehow jump started my need and want to be happy again. Made me see in colors again and dream dreams again.

Currently I have begun to get my life in order. Started eating right, exercising, and slowly improving facets of my life.  I am however worried that my depression would come back and set me back and ruin my current progress. It is my hope I can stay the course and find support here as well as contribute to the group.

Thank you for allowing me to share my story

Thank you for sharing it @Pinny76‍

My story is long and complicated. It also started with a long and complicated break up, combined with health issues no one would line up to deal with (in fact I tried dating a little and twice possibilities crossed my path but the multiple sclerosis scares people away) so I gave up that part ... it got worse from there. Way worse. As if someone is out to wreck what shreds I have left ... I hang on by a thread and the thread is thinning ...

Hi guys. I'm new to the forum. I found it tonight after looking for advice/articles about depression. I was diagnosed with depression when I was 18 (about 11 years ago), after attempting suicide during my senior year of high-school (though it definitely started before then, that was the first time I saw a therapist and received an actual diagnosis). It's been sort of on-and-off since then - some times are worse or better than others. Lately, it feels like it's been getting worse - I'm constantly angry or frustrated or sad, I sleep constantly but am literally always tired anyway. I realized today that I honestly can't remember the last time I *really* laughed about something.

It's been over 10 years since I was diagnosed, and at least 13 or 14 that I've been dealing with it, and I'm starting to feel like it's never going to go away. I've seen several different therapists, have tried a few different medications, exercise, forcing myself to go out, hoping and wishing and believing the depression away, ignoring it......I've tried everything and nothing seems to make any difference and I feel like nothing's ever going to make any difference. I'm terrified that I'm going to feel like this forever.

I guess I'm just hoping someone here has some ideas or advice, or can relate, or I don't know what...

@Kiersten‍  hi. Welcome to this group. I’ve struggled with depression on and off since the first episode which was postpartum. I can definitely relate. I’ve had happy times mixed in but as I continue aging and racking up health issues, along with poor relationship choices, (when there is one .. every time I “keep” one it’s the wrong one who lies and cheats) and I also don’t go out which is mostly health related but also may be part depression .. I made a suicide attempt during a horrible divorce (short marriage and a huge lawyer bill) and it’s caused family issues (my daughter in law uses it as an excuse to keep me estranged from my granddaughter and now she’s pregnant again) and the rest (two sisters, one nephew) are a dysfunctional mess .... I should go to counseling as it always makes me feel better but I am having trouble dragging myself there .. I’ve had a lot of problems with my eyes and driving has become difficult .. so I say all of this to you because I can relate. I’m more than happy to share my number with you if you feel talking would help you. It’s tough with friends too because people are busy and involved with their own little worlds. I feel like I have to pretend I’m not unhappy .. do you do that? I hope today is better for you than yesterday ..  you’re still young .. it sounds like meds aren’t helping you much. Do you know if you have any underlying health issues? Often they can be there unnoticed or not diagnosed ..  hang in there and remember there are people on here to try and lift you up. ?

My boyfriend is suffering from depression/anxiety and has completely shut me out. Ive called/texted him so many times and he has yet to communicate back. Im heartbroken right now and feel alone. Im doing everything in my power to get through to him but nothing is working. Please someone give me some advice cause idk what to do. I know he loves me and i dont believe he is doing this to hurt me but he just cant get over the depression to be able to talk. The last time he did talk to me he said he needed to think and that he was feeling very anxious and stressed out about everything. Any advice on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
