I just got a new medication from my doctor called bupropion. I’m starting it tomorrow and was wondering if anyone on here has taken it. I was just curious if I could drink on this med. I don’t drink a lot but I’m in college and I like to party with my friend some times. I googled it and it said it could up my chances of seizures, which I’ve never had, but I’m still curious if anyone on here has an opinion about this. Thanks.

@kmeredith188 Hi kmeredith188, thank you for opening this discussion. If you're concerned about your medicine, please don't hesitate to ask you doctor, he or she will be in the best position to let you know about possible interactions. In the meantime, let me tag some other members who may have experience with buproprion (sometimes known as brand name Wellbutrin).
Hi everyone, how are you today? Have you ever been prescribed buproprion for your depression? Was it effective for you? Did you have any side effects?

Hi Courtney,
I have been taking 300mg Bupropion for about 4 years now. I haven't had any major negative side effects. I take it early in the morning, as it can cause insomnia. The Doctor told me it would take 4-6 weeks before I feel the effects. My first day I took it in the afternoon, I was up all night. I also lost weight, now I'm stable.
Bupropion is an antidepressant ONLY. If you have a dual diagnosis, like anxiety you will need another medication to add on.
When my son passed away, they added Fluoxetine.

Hi,
I've been on bupropion for about 2 years. I do drink maybe 1x a month. Usually wine and no more than 3 glasses. I haven't had any side effects or seizures but keep in mind everyone is different. If you do decide to try, go slow, don't overdue it.
