Just be present, no need to say anything when dealing with a depressed person.
quietness speaks volumes!

Oh my goodness there have been so many things that were not helpful at all, and hurtful as well. Here are just a few of the things said:
1) Why don't you just chose to be happy.
2) If you truly believe in Jesus you wouldn't be depressed.
3) If you are going to be depressed just stay home because I don't want to catch it.
4) What do you have to be depressed about, just get over it.
5) You don't look or act like you are depressed, seems you just want attention.
I am still working on how to cope when folks say these things, it is hard, I have tried to explain what depression is and isn't but they don't seem to want to hear any of that, so I gave up trying to explain and usually have to walk away so that I don't fall apart in front of them.
I wish people would say I'm here for you, give me a hug, take time to call and check on me, admit that they don't understand depression but will listen when I explain what it is like for me.

Hi everyone 🌼
How are you feeling today?
When you live with depression, you quickly learn that not all support feels supportive. Even when people mean well, some phrases can sting, or make you feel even more misunderstood or isolated.
💬 Let’s talk about it:

Sharing our experiences can help others learn what real support looks like, and maybe even open the door to better conversations in the future. 💛
Take care,
