Hi @yankeepoodle89
I'm sure you are not the only one who didn't know about the new crisis line 9-8-8.
I'm actually curious if other members are aware of it. I'll tag a few members to see if they are aware of the new initiative.
@Joneboy57 @Hope169 @lawnmeower_ @op513_ @Karakraputo @annazach @LifeGetsWorse @Mommyof2 @Lisa143 @Amandatreadway @Burton @Livi83 @Skypaige22 @Brittany0603 @Love64 @Coco#57 @Bjstylist77 @Axrami60 @Shianne222 @Deshawna.bell @KaitMorton1102
Did you know about the 9-8-8 mental health crisis line? Did you know you can both call and text it? Have you used it? What do you think the government could do for better visibility on this program?
Take care,
Lizzi

Hi everyone,
How are you doing today?
Have you needed to call an emergency service during a mental health crisis? Most people only turn to 9-1-1 but in most of these situations police officers are ill equipped to handle the person in crisis. The new national mental health crisis line can be reached by calling 9-8-8 and many states have state-specific numbers that can route the call to the appropriate mental health crisis team. Many cities have these types of teams and send social workers, medics, trained outreach workers, or mental health professionals to calls that previously were handled by police officers. These programs have been slow to catch on in rural areas due to the lack of health care professionals in the area. But recently states such as Iowa, Arizona and South Dakota are funding programs that send mental health professionals to rural areas. Some are even using technology to connect counselors to people having a mental health crisis via iPads.
What do you think? Have you heard about or experienced this? Did you know about the 9-8-8 crisis line?
Let's share!
