Hello everyone,
How are you today? 😊
I thought I would revive this discussion so we can all get to know one another better!
What was your diagnosis experience like? How old were you when you were diagnosed? What symptoms were you having that let you know something was wrong? What treatments have you undergone? How are you doing today?

@Somya.P I am a caretaker of my long time boyfriend. He went for a colonoscopy 2/23/24 and was told they suspected cancer at bottom of colon/top of rectum. Since then he’s had multiple MRI s and ct scans. So far there is one tumor in colon/rectum(it’s a little of both) and have 4-5 lymph nodes and one tumor on liver. He got his port yesterday and starts chemotherapy on Tuesday next week. 8 rounds every other week. Then he will have radiation followed by surgeries. He has always had irritable bowel symptoms but never had blood or black stools. He just turned 61 and we were shocked that it is this bad. Stage 4 , he still feels good and looks like he always has. We are both so scared but he has a great attitude to fight with everything he has.

In February of this year, I went to the er to get a blood transfusion for the 2nd time in 3 years They admited me and asked if I wanted to do a colonostomy and oral exam and I said yes The problem was that I couldn't drink the prep and went home the next day
The following monday we tried again at home with the same result and went back to the doctor on Tuesday where he said one more time I had not pooped at all for 4 days and was dehydrated The following Thursday I went back to the ER where they did an enema and ct scan where they found a mass in my lower intestine I was transferred after 2 more enemas to another hospital where they did a biopsy and couldn't get thru the mass The decision was made to remove it and on Saturday they removed a tumor the size of a prune that had attached to the intestine wall and 24 lymph nodes (non-cancerous) They attached a bag and sent me home on the following Thursday
I was found to have Stage 3 colon cancer, had a port put in my chest, and start chemo on April 4
The interesting part is that I am a stage 3 prostrate cancer survivor (radiation treatment) for 3 years now

I completely understand as I don’t have anyone to talk to also. I’m a widow & I live alone. My oldest son died in 2021 & my youngest son & his family live 3 hours. My father is dead & my mother has chronic back pain & is immobile. My younger sister lives with our mother & she is going through a divorce from her husband who abandoned her. My sister doesn’t visit me, help me, call me & rarely texts me. I have various cousins, a niece & nephew that are spread out in nearby states but are hours away from me. After I told my friends I had cancer, they quit contacting me. I have learned how to be my own care giver. It has been very difficult. I’ll admit I’ve been depressed, cried a lot, felt sorry for myself but I never gave up. I prayed & read my Bible everyday. Then I found cancer groups online like this one where I could share what I was going through & got empathetic responses. That really kept me going. I hope you find someone to talk to but I highly recommend the online cancer chat groups.

Colorectal Cancer does not cause symptoms right away, and the symptoms that it initially causes may not alarm individuals to seek further medical advice.
Some of these initial symptoms - that may not cause one immediate alarm - could be a change in bowel habits: diarrhea, consipation, etc; a feeling of needing to have a bowler movement; and cramping or abdominal pain.
However, there can often be other symptoms.
What were your initial symptoms that made you question that something may not be right?
After your initial symptoms, how soon did you begin to seek medical advice?
