Hi everyone,

While asthma is usually triggered by allergens, exercise, or cold air, some members say they’ve noticed links between their symptoms and certain foods. Whether it’s dairy, sulfites, or processed foods, the body’s reactions can be surprising.

  • Have you noticed asthma symptoms flare after eating specific foods?
  • Do you follow any dietary rules that help manage your breathing?
  • What advice would you give to someone wondering about food-asthma triggers?

My insight is a little off topic. I take Vitamin D3 for my bones everyday. Have been for over 5 years. I have noticed that as long as I am taking my Vitamin D3 my asthma symptoms do not flare as much. I talked with my doctor and he stated that Vitamin D has a property in it that helps lessen inflammation. Now it may not be for everyone. But foods with Vitamin D may help lesson symptoms but always confer with your doctor first. I do notice that spicy foods sometimes gets my asthma to flare. I think that is because some spicy foods make me cough and with coughing a lot, it wants to trigger my asthma. I try to lessen the amount of spicy foods I eat and try not to eat them before going to bed. There are times I wake up with acid reflux that makes me cough so much it triggers the asthma.
