Hi Somya, and everyone! I've definitely noticed AS impacting my posture over the years. Slouching became more of an issue as my back stiffened, and I was initially worried about losing mobility. I do yoga weekly, which has helped my posture and given me a confidence boost. It's a slow process, but it helps!

I have had AS for 40+ years. I swam competitively for most of my teens. In my low 30's I could still swim but could not get my head in the correct position to maintain speed and it also impacted my ability to breath swimming freestyle. So my posture has deteriorated so badly, I can only swim on my back and sidestroke.
Now in my early 70's my posture is so poor, I cannot sit upright in chairs and my only comfortable position is a slump. My perfect chair makes it much easier to sit, since I can change the angle of my back for comfort.

I am in the severe range now at 74 yrs old. I have found thru trial and error and getting older with SA, I sleep on my back because I can hardly turn to my side now. I also take 10 mg Melatonin. I didn't know it came in 20 mg! (Thanks ladyslipper 67) What has really help with my back pain, when in bed, is a large memory foam wedge. The large end is under my knees and my legs go down to the small end. It doesn't move when I sleep but then again I am not turning over back and forth. This takes the pressure off my back. I hope this helps someone.

Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Ankylosing spondylitis is known to impact the spine and joints, which can sometimes lead to changes in posture. Over time, stiffness or pain in the back and neck might cause slouching, difficulty standing upright, or even changes in mobility. This can be frustrating and even affect confidence or daily activities.
Have you noticed AS changing your posture? If so, how have you managed it? Have exercises, physical therapy, or specific treatments helped you maintain better alignment or reduce discomfort?
