@Pelletierc123 Hello Pelletierc123, thank you for opening this discussion. Dyspnea (a term for shortness of breath or labored breathing) is a common symptom of respiratory conditions and can certainly be anxiety-inducing. Let me tag some other members who may be able to shed some light on this.
Hello everyone, how are you today? Do you every struggle with dyspnea? Does it create anxiety or stress for you? How do you cope with it? Do you know if doctors can prescribe anything to help with the anxiety it may cause?

@Courtney_J I ended in the hospital ER twice last year because of my anxiety I thought I couldn't breathe. One year later I am taking Buspar for one year, and learning to control anxiety with my CALM APPS.

In order to deal with any anxiety during sob episodes, I try to focus on an object while concentrating on deep breathing exercises until it's under control. Works well for me. I'm a firm believer in no more meds than absolutely necessary.

@dee450 Thanks for saying what your taking. I just asked my doctor what else is possible without getting into heavy anxiety drugs and she mention one only and that is the one you are taking what a coincidence.

I just got out of the hospital for dyspnea and almost Hypoxia. If you can get a prescription for a nebulizer, you will be very happy. It helps me tremendously. I do a treatment every 6 hours.

I just started a week ago on oxygen. My doctor could see the terror and sadness in my face. He gave me a little Xanax for anxiety but I don't really like it as I don't think it does anything for that. It does help me sleep for a few hours, though.

I had already been prescribed Zanax 20 years ago, due to an on-going chemical imbalance in the brain. It helps significantly when experiencing the anxiety associated with sob, as well as the depression I sometimes have simply because of the limitations that the disease places on me. I'm not a big proponent of more pills, just ask your Pulmonologist.

Dyspnea can be really tough to deal with, and I can definitely relate to the anxiety it can cause.

How are you doing today?
I saw that there is a great discussion chain regarding mediation for anxiety here. I encourage everyone to share their experiences using our new tool! You can leave your review of the medication, how well it worked, and any side effects your experienced. This will help other Carenity members as they ask their doctors what may work for them.
I hope you all are able to benefit from this new feature!
Take care,
