Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) is a rare inherited liver disorder that usually begins in infancy or early childhood. It affects the way liver cells move bile, causing bile acids to build up in the liver. This can lead to severe itching, jaundice, poor growth, and progressive liver damage that may develop into cirrhosis or liver failure.
