Hi I was diagnosed a year ago, I took my medication as directed (pills).  But not eating or excercise.  I started taking classes for diabetes, it's really hitting me how serious this is.  Thing is I suffer from anxiety and depression then I can barely eat.  This diagnosis is sgfaffect my anxiety.  I am on medication.  This is overwhelming, don't know if I can this?  The positive thing is blood test have been good and no other problems.  Thanks for Reading

@ericoltk‍ Welcome to Carenity.

I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but excited that you can control it and manage it. Exercise and diet can and does improve glucose tolerance in those with Type 2 Diabetes, in addition to reducing cardiovascular risk.

I understand you also are dealing with depression and anxiety, which compounds the situation. Were you diagnosed with these after the diagnosis of diabetes? or before?

Some medication for depression and anxiety will cause drowsiness and some can cause or attribute to weight gain or weight loss. Perhaps discussing your type-2 diabetes with your psychiatrist or doctor who prescribes the medication for your anxiety and depression may help.

Do you feel you do not have the energy for exercise? or is there another reason for not doing exercise?

Thanks for writing, I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression years ago.  Diabetes Last year.  I also have chronic fatigue syndrome.  I am SO exhausted most of the time, doing Anything is a challenge, I'm paying for it with having trouble just walking.  I am making a real effort to get somekind of excercise, I lost 2 pounds.  I've have not had luck when it comes to doctors.  Iam on medication that I take at night, which is helping, oh and I have insomnia.  I can't take melatonin it spikes my sugar.   So Im trying to Push through.  I have no support from anyone just writing on website.

I can't go to my counselor now because I got my rent raised $200, so 1 step forward 2 back. So lots to do.

@ericoltk‍ I understand how mentally exhausting depression and anxiety can be and how it can affect your physical energy also.

2 pounds is excellent! progress is progress! Diet is key also to losing weight, more so than exercise.

I am sorry you feel you have no support, but you will have and find support here! We are a growing community every day.

Keep pushing... use the site as a resource... post discussions about your concerns or if you need advice on certain aspects of weight loss, controlling diabetes, etc., create a new discussion aimed at that question to generate more responses.

Do not hesitate to contact me for any assistance.

Hi!  After my dx, my emotions were all over the place.  One minute I was ok and the next in tears.  I didn't know what to eat, or if I could eat.  So the good news is, you're normal!  Have you tried Benadryl to help you sleep?  Works just about every time for me and my Dr know I take it. I don't know what you're doing dietwise, but there are some serious changes you need to make.  The good new is, fat is good!  Yay!  I didn't have to give up bacon.  Just everything else I like..  Pasta, rice, cereal, potatoes and the biggie for me, BREAD.  I'm a carb junkie.  Start looking at labels for carb counts and serving size.  If the carb count seems high for the serving size, PUT. IT. BACK.  This will include most processed foods.  Fresh is better and if you like veggies, you're good to go.  I eat a lot of salads now because I don't like cooked veggies, but I will eat them raw.  I don't eat a lot of red meat because it's kind of pricy, but I will treat myself once in a while.  I have pork and chicken mostly with some kind of seafood occasionally.  I buy the nut mixes for snacking, at least they're not chips.  And NO sugary drinks.  Hope this helps a little.
