Hey, I've had MS for many years now (sometimes I almost lose count!) and I feel like I remember at the beginning the neurologist told me that I couldn't be vaccinated anymore. No flu shots, no shots for foreign travel, etc. Does anyone know anything about this? Has this changed in recent years? At a time where we may eventually have a vaccine for COVID-19, I've been wondering about it.

If I remember right I think the neurologist said that my immune system was attacking itself so it wouldn't be wise to introduce a virus to it, even if it's for inoculation purposes.

What do you all think? Thanks.

I have gotten the flu vaccine for years without any repercussions.

Thanks everyone for the replies! I guess I'll update my question to make it fun: have any of you heard from your neurologist about whether we can get the COVID vaccine? I've heard that some of them depending on who makes it aren't recommended for people with certain allergies so I'm curious. Have any of you gotten it yet?

@padres44 Hello padres44, thank you for your comment. emoticon cute

As of now, the CDC hasn't included MS in its list of conditions that would put one at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 (People with Certain Medical Conditions) that would allow someone to get the vaccine in Phase 1c. That being said, each state has its own plan for deciding who will be vaccinated first and how they can receive vaccines. Make sure to ask your doctor or medical team, they should be able to let you know if the vaccine is appropriate for you. We've created a pinned discussion here that we'll try to keep updated with the latest information on vaccine eligibility: COVID-19 vaccination campaign: Who is currently eligible for the vaccine?

Has anyone heard from their doctor or MS team about the vaccine? Do you intend to get it when it because available to you?

I get a flu shot every year and I get the ocrevus infusion.  But as far as the covid vaccine i will not get it until it has been on the market for several years.  I will not get something that was made as quickly as this was.

I belong to MS Views and News. It’s a free group with a lot of great medical Information. Every week they have someone discuss virtually about many MS topics, one being vaccinated. I don’t want to quote any MS neurologists,, but from what research has shown that as long as it’s not live and you’re not on certain meds, you should have the vaccine.

@rockin888 My doctor told me the same. Once it becomes available to me I'll be getting it.
