Hey, I've had MS for many years now (sometimes I almost lose count!) and I feel like I remember at the beginning the neurologist told me that I couldn't be vaccinated anymore. No flu shots, no shots for foreign travel, etc. Does anyone know anything about this? Has this changed in recent years? At a time where we may eventually have a vaccine for COVID-19, I've been wondering about it.

If I remember right I think the neurologist said that my immune system was attacking itself so it wouldn't be wise to introduce a virus to it, even if it's for inoculation purposes.

What do you all think? Thanks.

@padres44 Hello padres44, thank you for starting this discussion. This is a great question, let me tag some members who may be able to provide some insight on this.

Hello everyone, I hope you don't mind that I've tagged you! Do you know anything about this? Are vaccines safe for people with MS?

Hey!

I actually do receive the flu vaccine every year. I know each one of us is different but if I have a active infection inside my body, I lose my vision until the infection in gone. Sooo .... yeah

Ad long as the vaccine is not a live vaccine we can take it. I do get my flu vaccine each year.

I did not get a flu vaccine last year because I was pretty ill and my doctor advised against it.  But previously yes along with pneumonia vaccine.

Hello, I do not take the flu vaccine because it has eggs in it. I am allergic to eggs. I had MS for close to 19 years.

My neurologist instructs me to get flu vaccine yearly. We haven't discussed covid-19 vaccine yet.

I always get a flu vaccine shot every year.  I have had MS since 1999.  Now taking a okrevus infusion 2x annually and love it.  No shots!

Hello I started taking Ocrevus last year and I love what has been doing for me so far. I know every medication treats everybody’s body differently. Please talk to your neurologist to find out if this medication would work for you.
