Hello members,

Many studies suggest that good and proper sleep plays a key role in our health. Unfortunately, some chronic illnesses can make it difficult to get proper sleep.

Does your illness affect your sleep?

Do you have any tips for better sleep?

Do you use sleeping pills or any natural methods?

Do you have a pattern you follow to fall asleep and stay asleep?

Share here your advice and questions about sleep, a precious asset!

Have a great day.

I’ve found that getting good sleep is key to my healing process. Even if its just for 15 min or an hour. It allows my exhausted body a little reprieve from madness of life. With just a minuscule of sleep, my body can feel the difference!

I’ve had sleep issues since about junior high, that I can remember anyway. I do believe, I ‘ve tried just about every chemical and natural sleep aid out there over the last 35 years. Natural is never strong enough to last for long periods at a time and chemical aids always seem to addicting, and cause liver issues now that I’m older.  Plus, I already take enough chemicals with my Lupus, high blood pressure and thyroid issues. I try and avoid chemical treatments where natural will work.

What worked for me is, after my life long journey of trying to force sleep. I’ve decided to let my body sleep when it wants and take advantage of the times, I have energy. While this may not be an option for everyone, it worth a try. Take a 15min cat nap in your car, bathroom or desk. If you can’t fall asleep find something you can do that engrosses and calms your mind. I’m a crafting freak, I’ll be crafting till I die…LOL!

When I’m crafting my mind is on nothing else but that. Slowey, my mentality begins to change from adult with tons of problems to a little girl trying to find the best color. For me that works wonders on my inner healing, which allows my body to remember or know what it feels like to not worry. This makes it easier for your body to relax the next time, then the next and so forth. The more your body begins to learn or re-learn how to relax you can then start diving into what is causing your insomnia. Insomnia is just a message from your body telling you something else is wrong.

I used to have insomnia, sometimes still do, but with my recent inoperable, malignant brain tumor diagnosis, surprisingly, I'm falling asleep much easier. Although I suspect cancer takes a lot out of you, too. My new sleep issue is sleep paralysis. It happens at least 4 nights a week and I struggle to awake from it, as it is terrifying, and always manage to get out of it,  eventually. Only to fall back asleep and it happen all over again. 4 and 5 times in a row. Hours of terror. Turning on lights, caffeinating, anything to stay awake in I will fall into a normal sleep rythym THIS time. It's terrifying and exhausting and I often fret throughout the day just dreading the sleep paralysis terror. Any advice as to what causes this and, more importantly, how to get it to stop happening! Thank you for reading ☺️ well wishes to you all ❤️

Hi everyone.  Replying to sleep question.  Sleep is crucial!   I have sleep apnea.   Am not rested at all.   Met someone at my building elevator today.   Asked if I was ok, & said not really, have sleep apnea.   They suggested I go to emergency.   I asked them back, what could they do?    She said maybe help u.   Nope.   I stop breathing at night.  Need CPAP but worldwide shortage doesn't help.   Going thru motions only.   I learned an exercise fitness test was scheduled for today.    Had errands to run.  I felt too exhausted to go.   I've done them many times before.  Exhaustion is slowly killing me.

I work on call now.   Not expected there daily.   Thx for listening.  Stay safe

I have sleep apnea , afib, congestive heart failure and MS. Sleep can be rough. Over 60 percent of MS patients have restless leg syndrome. We tend to kick and thrash. We can’t just stay in one location. There’s a recent study on melatonin saying should only be used sparingly. Yet Doctors have told me to use it for years. Key I find is same time up same time down. Dark.no tv. If needed use a sound machine. I have snoring dogs. The right bed helps. I’m spoiled with a sleep number and adjustable frame. Ask it you want to run by anything.

@Jastanley9 thx for telling of your situation. So very sorry for all your sleep, & health problems! I have great friend who has MS. They also have restless leg syndrome. I understand about same time up & down. Always fall asleep on couch. Bad habit. Finally got CPAP but need chin strap to keep mouth closed, suspecting I still snore. Strap more constricting than mask. Gotta wear it for health. I know well how sleep problems can affect rest of life. I'm in a zone when at work. Sometimes I drink energy drinks, but in long run, always makes me even more tired. Guess I'll stop there. Thx for reading. Best of luck to all.

Yes, I have sinuses, and it severely disturbs sleep, at first I used pills later avoided them and started using natural remedies to overcome them.
