HI !

I WAS RUSHED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND THEN TO THE ICU

THEY TOLD ME THAT MY BLOOD SUGAR WAS ONE THOUSAND AND              SEVENTY TWO 1,072 !

SINCE THAN MY INSULIN DOSES ROSE TO 110 UNITS OF LONG LASTING INSULIN TWICE A DAY AND 15 UNITS OF FAST ACTING INSULIN BEFORE MEALS.

I FEEL LIKE 15 UNITS OF FAST ACTING INSULIN BEFORE MEALS ISN'T ENOUGH FOR ME !

HAS ANYONE FOUND A DOSE OF INSULIN THAT WORKS FOR THEM ?

@COOLCALEB Hello COOLCALEB, thank you for opening this discussion. I'm so sorry to hear you've been in the hospital, but I'm glad you got some care. Extremely high blood sugar can be very dangerous!

You should talk to your doctor if you're not sure your insulin doses are right for you, but in the meantime let me tag some other members who can maybe share their thoughts and advice with you. emoticon cute

Hi everyone, how are you doing today? Can you share some advice with COOLCALEB? Have you ever felt like your insulin doses weren't correct for you? Did you talk to your doctor about it? What works for you?

@COOLCALEB I think it's a game of trial and error. You learn with time. I hope you're doing better, it sounds like you really went through it!

I try to eat meals where I have a pretty good idea what the amount of carbs is. I take 8 units of novolog for every 20 gm of Carbs, For meals what I have no idea I try to keep a mental list of what works.  I always check about 2 hrs after the meal and take more if necessary

Hi Folks,

The correct dose of Insulin for type 2 is ZERO.  Type 1 is a disease of no insulin production.  Type 2 is a disease of Insulin resistance. You have too much insulin now, for god's sake don't inject more.   High blood sugar is the symptom not the cause.  The cause is insulin resistance. Your body's cells and especially your liver are FULL of sugar and don't want more. Too reverse insulin resistance eat 25 to 50 grams of carbs per day max, eat high fat medium protein.  Eat healthy animals that are grass fed, whole dairy, all berries, nuts. green veggies and lots of avocados.  Eat 2 to 3 meals a day, do NOT snack. Try to walk more, no heavy exercise.  This works for everyone.  Diabetes in not a progressive disease and is 100% curable by you!

To be clear:

"With type 2 diabetes, your body either resists the effects of insulin — a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells — or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain normal glucose levels."

You cannot produce or INJECT enough insulin to achieve a A1C under 5.7  as a type 2.  No part of your body can work correctly including your pancreas if the cells are full of carbos and fat from years of  overeating of carbos.

Here is something I hope you know and readers should know is that almost half of all starches you eat are turned into fructose which can only be absorbed by the cells in your liver. The other 55% of the starches you eat can be absorbed by your fat and muscle cells.  This is devastating to the liver as it has to turn all the extra fructose that gets into triglycerides. Some stay in the liver causing fatty liver and then fatty pancreas, gumming up the function of both.  The rest are used to store fat on your body.  Studies have show that type 2's with tightly controlled blood sugar die early at the same rate as type 2's that have poor blood sugar control.  That is because high blood sugar is just a symptom of the disease.  You must treat the disease, which is insulin resistance.  So let me correct your statement with six words at the end.

"With type 2 diabetes, your body either resists the effects of insulin — a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells — or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain normal glucose levels."

Because your body is full of sugar.
