@Courtney_J Both my dad and my aunt had diabetes. I don't think having it in the family changed anything about my life or habits really, but when I was diagnosed the fact that I was familiar with it and what life with diabetes is like I think I was more prepared to take it all on. I wasn't scared, I guess. I imagine it can be scary or overwhelming for people who don't have experience with it.

Hi everyone,
I thought I would open this discussion so we can talk about family history!
Both genetic and environmental factors have been found to play a strong role in the chances of developing type 2 diabetes.
Have you found the same to be true within your family? Does anyone else in your family have diabetes, or are you the only one? If you do have a family history, did that knowledge change your lifestyle or approach to diabetes?
