I’m concerned about developing diabetic neuropathy. Does anyone have this? What is the worst part? Is it manageable?

Hi @nomorenomore

How are you doing today?

@LizziB @nomorenomore
I have had Diabetic Neuropathy (Polyneuropathy) in the legs for several years. Went to a "free" screening once where they tested and "verified" the nerve damage in my feet, then went to the high pressure sales pitch to buy their monthly treatment (not covered by insurance). Ignored that and then asked my PCP about it and was given a Script for Gabapentin. Took that for a year or so and saw no change or improvement to the pain. Then tried the Alpha Lipoic Acid supplements for the next year, but still no relief, just going broke from the cost. Recently have been seeing a Neurologist for other testing and they prescribed the Lyrica (generic is Pregabalin). Testing also confirmed moderate to severe Neuropathy in both legs and minor in the arms/hands. Within a week or two of taking the Pregabalin, the pain in the legs has diminished by about 80%. Cramping in the hands (from moderate Ulnar Nerve damage) has all but stopped.
More testing scheduled for the Neurologist and have increased the dosage for the Pregabalin. So nice to be able to walk without the pain in the shins, like just running track and the associated shin splint pain...every day.
For me, the Gabapentin and Alpha Lipoic Acid did nothing where Pregabalin does. Each of us react differently to the prescribed treatment.

@LizziB I have been diabetic for 22 years. I have had peripheral neuropathy for probably five years and the pain is unbearable. It feels like have my feet and legs in hot pepper juice and the stinging is awful. My feet are numb but I also have pain. That is hard to describe but it is true. I have taken Gabapentin which did not help and am taking pregablin now. I recently went to a foot doctor who increased my pregablin and we will see how that works. He seems very nice and I think he will work diligently to do what he can. I hope you get some relief soon.

Depending on the cause of the neuropathy, ie nerve disorder or blood flow or perhaps another problem Theo have been extremely fortunate to use Healthlight therapy which has reduced my neuropathy by 95%. I purchased the system and use it three time a day regardless of what I’m doing or where I’m at,

Hi @Gordon, How are you doing today?

Unfortunately you can only search by the brand name or condition at the moment, which is why you might not be able to find it.

Here are a few medications with Metformin. If you find the one, you have used feel free to click on the name and leave a review!

Glucophage

Fortamet

Glumetza

Riomet

Take care,

Polina from the Carenity team
