Yes. I’ve been diagnosed with cancer. Been going through treatment and would like to find an in-person support group.

I have found my support through my church family! They not only pray for me and encourage me to keep going, they have also helped us financially with groceries and bills I can’t pay now and then. I do wish there were more resources for patients like us that cannot work due to our illness and/or treatments! I would gladly accept any advice on here…. You all are in my prayers and I do hope you all find a good support system during your battle! Have a blessed holiday. Keisha

Hi everyone,
It seems like some Carenity members would like to find in person support groups. Here is what the American Cancer Society says are some good places to look for cancer support groups near you:
"Many hospitals, cancer centers, community groups, and schools offer cancer support groups. Below are some ways to find groups near you.
Ask your health care team if your cancer center or hospital has cancer support groups.
Ask your hospital social worker where to find support groups.
Talk to other patients who have tried support groups.
Look for advocacy groups or organizations for your specific cancer type. Many offer groups and listservs for your needs.
Do an online search for groups in your area. Or go to the NCI database Organizations that Offer Cancer Support Services to find those that offer support groups. Examples include CancerCare and the Cancer Support Community.

Information explaining the types of support groups, the benefits of joining a support group, and where to find one.

I have not found one and no one seems to think it is a horrible diagnosis since they got it all when they took my thyroid out. It is easier for me to be struck with another type of cancer and no one seems to care.

I completely understand as I don’t have anyone to talk to also. I’m a widow & I live alone. My oldest son died in 2021 & my youngest son & his family live 3 hours. My father is dead & my mother has chronic back pain & is immobile. My younger sister lives with our mother & she is going through a divorce from her husband who abandoned her. My sister doesn’t visit me, help me, call me & rarely texts me. I have various cousins, a niece & nephew that are spread out in nearby states but are hours away from me. After I told my friends I had cancer, they quit contacting me. I have learned how to be my own care giver. It has been very difficult. I’ll admit I’ve been depressed, cried a lot, felt sorry for myself but I never gave up. I prayed & read my Bible everyday. Then I found cancer groups online like this one where I could share what I was going through & got empathetic responses. That really kept me going. I hope you find someone to talk to but I highly recommend the online cancer chat groups.

Hello everyone,
How are you doing today?
At Carenity, we try to connect patients living with chronic illnesses via an online platform. Your voices can be expresses, shared, and you can find community with others living with similar conditions to yours.
But what about in-person connection, where have you found your support group? Was it at your hospital? A meet up group? A fundraiser? Through friends?
Please share where you found your support group, where you turn for help.
Take care,
Lizzi from the Carenity team
