I did not find physical therapy or exercises helped at all. I tried swimming, water suspension and nothing helps. The only relief I get is from lying flat in bed and injections. What are others doing for relief? S.

I have too much pain and definitely not enough energy to excerise. Ive tried the gym, low impact cardio. But 20 min and I barely have enough energy to drive home

As the disease progresses, exercise and physical therapy becomes very hard. I do my best to try and maintain good posture during the day (as best as I physically can) and that in itself is some exercise. I try to contract my abs and back muscle in doing so.

Well, I have severe back pain and I can say that only swimming helps me forget about it for a while. I recently met an athlete who recommended special training for the back muscles developing. Actually, I think this is a good idea and can help me get rid of the pain I constantly feel. In addition, I read that there are drugs that improve muscle growth and strengthen them. Then I found this article https://steroidcycle.org/testosterone-cycle/ and I was interested in this opportunity to strengthen the muscles and get rid of the pain. In addition, steroids are also used for medical purposes. I can get beautiful muscles and a life without pain. If someone knows a specialist in this field, please share their contacts.

I am in the severe range now at 74 yrs old. I have found thru trial and error and getting older with SA, I sleep on my back because I can hardly turn to my side now. I also take 10 mg Melatonin. I didn't know it came in 20 mg! (Thanks ladyslipper 67) What has really help with my back pain, when in bed, is a large memory foam wedge. The large end is under my knees and my legs go down to the small end. It doesn't move when I sleep but then again I am not turning over back and forth. This takes the pressure off my back. I hope this helps someone.

The purpose of this discussion is to discuss what physical therapy exercises or exercises that you have used that have been the most beneficial to your condition.
Please state the type of exercise, describe how it should be performed, and how often (times a week, reps, sets) you perform such exercise.
I hope for this discussion to become a great place of reference for those with AS to reference.
