Since Ulcerative Colitis is a chronic, inflammatory bowel disease causing inflammation in the digestive tract, it is only natural that those diagnosed may need to use caution with their eating habits.

Despite there being no evidence that suggests that any particular food or diet causes, prevents, or cures inflammatory bowel conditions, such as ulcerative colitis, there are certain advertised diets and foods that are recommended in alleviating symptoms.

Needless to say, it is highly recommended with inflammatory bowel conditions to maintain a healthy and balanced diet and lifestyle.

What is your personal diet like?
+ Are there foods that you stay away from knowing it will irritate or trigger symptoms?
+ Are there foods that you prefer or that alleviate symptoms?

How often do you eat an in what quantities?

@Sissie for me it's any dairy. I pretty much have to avoid all the things I like. Pizza, burgers, fried food, just can't do it any more or the next day, or even shortly after eating it I regret it.

Stay away from Dairy Queen blizzards... I had been doing well and decided to try a blizzard yesterday. I only ate part of it and felt it pretty quickly.... bathroom. My insides still feel horrible and painful.

I can eat everything except pecans…. However I also have candida, with this I cannot eat any sugars, carbs, these symptoms are nothing like colitis.  When the candida is active my colitis is more sensitive, anyone else have this reaction....

For me it's fruits and vegetables that create gas as they break down the sugars in my stomach such as onions and apples. Those Foods just go right through me. Also mushrooms, I don't know why but my body hates them, which is really sad because I love them. Often there are things that I love that I just can't eat. Raw garlic, broccoli, spinach, a lot of the complex fruits and vegetables in raw form I have to stay away from. Fiber. My doctor prescribed me Bentyl, and I take that before any of those meals and it really helps me not to Slough through my food and have it come right out the other side. I know better than to eat tacos or pizza and expect to not have to use the bathroom afterwards. Also Sushi gets me every time.

It’s dairy and fried foods , raw vegetables I don’t eat . What is best for me is juicing . I juice celery apples and carrots. I make 4 cups so I can drink some everyday. I also drink tumeric milk but it’s with almond milk. It’s very good for having UC, the taste also isn’t bad at all, if some don’t like it just add honey to it , you’ll thank me later 👍🏽

@garcia_noreen I am intrigued to try the tumeric almond milk - why do you like it and what does it do for you?

Has anyone tried a plant-based or vegan diet? I'm wondering if it'd work for me or if it's possible for us with UC because I have a hard time with raw vegetables.

@livenlaugh I'd read into it before you try it, I think you might have to be careful with which vegetables you eat because some are harder to digest than others. And I think a lot of the meat replacements can cause inflammation or have high levels of sugar that might not be good. I haven't tried it myself so I don't know for sure, but I'd read about it first.
