Please help me understand as a caregiver to my diabetic dad

I'm a caregiver to my Dad. He is 76 and has had Type 2 diabetes for years. In February of this year he stopped taking all of his medications including insulin and has never checked his blood sugar. His doctor is aware of this and suggested hospice because he is also a alcoholic and drinks 8 to 10 beers a day. His doctor told him in February that if he did not stop drinking he would only have 3 - 6 months. He refused hospice. He also has COPD, stage 3 kidney disease, coronary artery disease, an ejection fraction on his left side of his heart of 30%. He has also had 2 heart attacks in the last 5 years the last on was in March 2018. He seems to have some memory issues. What do I need to prepare for????

Hi @jax2222‍ I am sorry to read all of this and to hear about the condition of your dad. Sounds like he has gone through a lot and is just feeling "tired" of everything... Suffering from depression, diabetes, and a couple other minor conditions I cannot imagine what your dad has gone through.

What do you mean what do you need to prepare for? Are you talking about what the doctor had said?

Keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers, as with many people on here.

hi @jax2222 I am really sorry about your dad, although there's no cure for type 2 diabetes, studies show it's possible for some people to reverse it. my prayers are with your dad and as many who are suffering the same.

@jax2222 I am sorry to hear about your dad. Sounds like a very tough situation and one that is beyond just the diabetes. Have you had a heart to heart with your dad?

@jax2222 i also want to say that i am sorry to hear what your father and your family are going through, illness can be a hard, stressful, sad and frustrating part of life some of us are dealt with. i think a lot of people reach the point of "giving in" in the sense that they may lose hope. I hope your father is able to find his strength again so that he can continue to fight for his health. best wishes!

@jax2222 wow this is terrible to read i am so sorry! my fiancee has type 2 diabetes and ever since she was diagnosed it has been hard for us to adjust to our new reality... all i can say is that it would be difficult to see my loved one having such a hard time and yet i know that as hard as i feel it is for me it is 100000X harder for her so i think the best you can do is support and love your father though this and pray that soon he will find the strength to keep fighting.
