@Courtney_J I was diagnosed about a year ago with breast cancer. I had a really hard time making the decision between a mastectomy and chemo, and ended up going for the chemo. Went through 4 cycles. Thought I was in remission but I may have found a lump the other day, so going in to see my oncologist soon.

I guess if I had to give advice I'd say to make sure to take care of your mental health. Cancer is such a struggle and often your family or partner just can't really understand what you're going through or know what you need, so seeing someone outside the family or your relationship is really helpful. My therapist gave me all sort of coping techniques and was really there for me in a way my husband couldn't be.

Wishing you all the best in this strange time!

Hi. I am new here. My name is Michele.  I have joined here because my partner and best friend and love of my life has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. I want to be the best person I can be for him. But it is scary for me. What do you suggest? What do you need to hear? I hope all goes well for you! One of my friends recently went through what you are. Third time around she opted for the mastectomy. And she is just as beautiful as she always has been. You need to do what is right for you. And being here and looking at other’s stories and fears are helping me understand what I need to do for him. This is a horrible time to be going through this. Not like there is a good time for it in any way. I am sorry that your husband couldn’t be there the way you needed. Maybe it’s a man thing. But this site is a release for me. And it helps me to see everyone’s experiences so that I can learn. And while I am learning it is also helpful for me to reach out. And give support. Hugs hope and love to you❤️

Hi I'm Justin, I'm 43. I have throat cancer. I may have caught it in time but because I have no insurance it took me forever to get charity care and when I did I got checked and they told me no biggie probably asymmetrical vocal cords. My fault though, I noticed my voice getting worse for over a year. But i was a heavy drinker at the time, just procrastinated until it hurt to talk. So I went back. This time, which if they did the first time I might be ok now, they did a better look and it was obviously cancer. Now at stage 3 and in a very difficult place to get to I attempted radiation therapy. Well, it didn't work so after procedures they determined the best thing was to remove the vocal box entirely. I have no choice. Now I'm almost there. It would have been done months ago but they were only doing life saving surgery because of covid. A couple of weeks before my surgery my tumor swelled up blocking my airway combined with water and phlegm in my lungs I had to be rushed to the hospital where immediately they did a life saving surgery cutting a hole in my throat so i could breathe. Weeks later I'm still recovering from that and the feeding tube surgery. Every day is a struggle for me and my family and my crazy beautiful woman .  In 3 days I go for a consultation. I know my larynx is coming out and facial reconstructive surgery. It's a waiting game now. This is my story so far. I feel for anyone going through any hardships. I've definitely become more aware and empathize with people going through pain like this and life altering diseases. Good luck everyone.

I found out 4 days ago that I have cancer. I don’t know what kind or where it originated. It presented as a mass on my abdominal muscle. I had the mass removed thinking it was a hematoma or some scar tissue but it wasn’t. I’m 46 and healthy as a horse! I’m in shock. They think it’s GI related, probably pancreatic. I find out 6/8 what it is. I have MRICP and PET scan next week.
I am freaking out and don’t know what to say or do. I am also in the middle of selling my house and moving.

Yeah it's healthy for us. I can't wait to hopefully eat and enjoy good food. I think about it all the time. Cooking and eating is a big part of my life.

Yes I love to cook and bake especially.  I am in the middle of moving so I can’t even bake a cake which was always a kind of therapy for me! Lol but I’m trying to eat all of my favorite things before I have to start treatments. I go tomorrow for my MRI/MRICP and then Wed for my PET scan.  A week from today I go back to the doctor to get my results and find out what kind of cancer I have. We don’t even know for sure but I’m worried it’s pancreatic. My cousin had it in her 30’s.
