I have not participated in a clinical trial before. I would not have a problem participating in a clinical trial if one is in my area.

I have tried to participate in a few clinical trials but did not qualify for one reason or another.
I actually wanted to switch careers, from accounting to clinical translational research. Worked with the admissions department at George Washington University to get my application and purpose statement all good and ready. Ultimately, I got denied because I don't have enough of a science background. They said spend the nedt uear getting experience and try again. Turns out, clinical research is an incredibly sought after field that is near impossible to get into without any prior background in it. So, time to reevaluate and rethink the career path. Im going to accomplish the mission. Just have to do it a different way.

I have tried to participate in a few clinical trials but did not qualify for one reason or another. The idea of contributing to mankind as a whole (too grandiose?) by participating in trials that could one day help countlesd individuals was a big motivating factor. I still look at trials that are happening and consider applying when the fit looks good-ish.

I would if I knew about such a trial for my problem. But I would do as much reasearch to find out the potential problems and side effects. I will do what I can so that others won't have to go thru what I am going through due to my Crohns.

I have not been in any clinical trial. Would like to be in one. I would like to find one that would help with my multiple sclerosis. Tired of taking drugs that are not really working.
So please consider me for the possibility of this one.

Years ago, when I was first diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, there was a New York Times article about stem cell transplants and autoimmune disease, as a treatment. After that article, numerous diseases began treatment using stem cell. I believe the United States does not recognize this as a viable treatment because of the cost. Canada and Mexico continue to treat patients with this stem cell transplant. I have a friend who went to Mexico and received this treatment for her Multiple Sclerosis. Her insurance did not cover it and it cost her upwards of $70,000. She essentially had to receive chemotherapy to wipe out her immune system. She had to quarantine after the procedure, because the chemotherapy made her very susceptible to infection and sickness. She now kids that it was nice she didn’t have to worry about shaving her legs or other parts of her body😂
Three years ago I went to Johns Hopkins for a MS Seminar, and the neurologist spoke how he was doing stem cell in Canada. During the Q&A I asked why it is not available in the United States for Multiple Sclerosis, and his response was, “Because insurance companies refuse to cover it, and would rather have patients suffer. CmI believe stem cells are now being used to treat certain cancers. Hopefully, this treatment will be extended to all diseases. It is dangerous, but the results, I feel, outweigh the risk for the patient’s quality of life.

Hello everyone,
How are you today?
Following the publication of our new article (What is a clinical trial?) I thought I'd open this discussion!
Clinical trials aim to improve the care and treatment of patients at all stages of their health condition.
What about you? Have you ever participated in a clinical trial? What were your motivations?
If not, would you be interested in doing so? Why or why not?
Feel free to discuss in the comments here!
Take care,
Courtney
