Hi everyone,

Antibiotics can be life-saving, but if you’ve ever ended up with an upset stomach, diarrhea, or just felt “off” during or after a course, you’re definitely not alone. Many of us don’t get much guidance on how to support our bodies while taking them, especially when it comes to what we eat.

Recent insights suggest that certain foods and habits can actually help our gut recover from antibiotics, while others might make things worse.

Here’s a quick summary:

✅ Foods that may help:

  • Probiotics: Yogurt, kefir, or a supplement (just space it 4–6 hours away from the antibiotic dose)
  • Fermented foods: Like kimchi, sauerkraut, or kombucha
  • Prebiotic foods: Red wine (in moderation!), cocoa, garlic, and onions
  • High-fiber foods (but best eaten after finishing antibiotics so they don’t interfere with absorption)

❌ Foods to avoid:

  • Grapefruit and grapefruit juice (it can block proper drug metabolism)
  • Calcium-fortified foods or calcium supplements (they can reduce antibiotic absorption)

🌱 The bottom line? Supporting your gut during and after antibiotics doesn’t have to be complicated, and even small changes can help you feel better faster.

What’s your go-to food or remedy while taking antibiotics?

Have you ever had side effects like diarrhea or bloating?

Do you take probiotics, and if so, what kind?
