I have been seeing my therapist for about a year and a half and have built a really good relationship with her, she is really good, and as I am sure you all know it is difficult to find a good therapist. Well she called me almost 2 months ago to inform me that her mother had died so she would be cancelling her appointments, she told me that she hopes that I will not chose to stop seeing her but she would understand if I decided to go with a new therapist, she told me she was not resigning from the clinic she is affiliated with, that she will be back. I had one appointment scheduled with her that was 2 weeks after this phone call, one week later I received a call from the clinic telling me that my therapist is cancelling all her appointments for July but she will be back in August. When I had not heard anything by the second week of August I called the clinic and asked if my therapist was taking appointments, they said they were waiting for her to confirm, well we are nearing the end of August and still I have heard nothing so I called the clinic today and asked if there was any word on my therapist, their response was that they have not heard from her but they are getting new therapists so they will call when they start.

Now I am like ughhhhhhhhhh I don't want to start all over, it is so hard and quite frankly I am scared but more than that I am truly hurt because it seems like my therapist has decided she is not coming back and no one is going to tell me.........this is just too much for me!!!

Has anyone else experienced anything like this and if so how did you deal with it?

@charding8290 Hello charding8290, thank you for opening this discussion and sharing your fears. Losing a therapist with whom you've made progress and built up trust can be both sad and frustrating. It's a shame that the clinic isn't being more communicative with their patients. I know like you may feel like you're "starting over", but you can take what you've learned with your previous therapist and build on from there with your new one.

Let me tag some other members who can possibly share their experience and advice!

Hi everyone, how are you doing today? Have any of you had to transition from one therapist or mental health counselor to another? How did the experience go for you? Can you share any advice or tips on how to make the transition smoother?
