please don't be so hard on yourself... my husband went through the exact same nightmare. the mental toll on men is insane because you guys suffer in silence. he became so depressed he stopped talking to me completely. just know that it is a medical issue, not a personal failure. you are not alone in this.

Hi @Bobbert85,
Thank you for sharing something so personal so honestly. I can imagine it took a lot to post this, especially when it touches on something many men are taught to keep private or “just deal with” alone. What you’re describing, that cycle where ED affects confidence and mental wellbeing, and then anxiety makes intimacy feel even harder, is something many people can relate to, even if it’s not often talked about openly. The emotional impact can be just as real and difficult as the physical symptoms. And I just want to gently say this: experiencing ED does not make you any less of a man. I know that feeling can be incredibly hard to shake, but you’re far from alone in this.
Thank you as well @Julianna92 for such a compassionate response ❤️ It’s always meaningful when members help remind each other that health challenges are not personal failures.
To open this up to others:
- Has ED or another intimate health issue affected your confidence, mood, or mental health?
- If performance anxiety became part of the cycle, what helped you break it, or at least feel less alone in it?
- For partners or loved ones, what helped you support someone going through this?

i never thought i would be posting on a mental illness forum but here i am. dealing with erectile dysfunction for the past 6 months has completely destroyed my mind. i am living here in Atlanta and honestly i feel too depressed to even leave the house sometimes. i have severe anxiety now, panic attacks before intimacy, and i feel like less of a man. it is a vicious cycle... the ED caused the depression, and now the depression makes the ED worse. has anyone else experienced this mental toll?
