Hey guys,

I have a question. I recently was diagnosed with diabetes; however, I have noticed that my joints are becoming increasingly achy and painful. Especially my elbows and knees.

Has anyone experienced increased joint pain with diabetes? Any recommendations on anything I can do?

Hello Clarence, I have experienced joint pain, but the doctors have told me this is not related to my diabetes. To help with the joint pain, I take tumeric, CBD oil, and glucosamine and chroindrotin. Some days I feel better than others. Even with these supplements I still feel achy and pain in my joints, but I want to say it does help ease it some.

Hey @clarence1954‍ ,

I have joint pain from past surgeries. The discomfort can get really bad in my elbows where I had surgery. I also have diabetes. I was told from the doctors that the joint pain is independent of my diabetes. However, the doctor did say that because of my diabetes, loss of sensation (damage to a nerve) in my joints may lead to damage to the joint I would speak to your doctor about this if you think it may be caused by this.

I second what @bluesncards said. My doctor told me that I am twice as likely to have arthritis because of diabetes, so what I have been doing is taking a joint supplement for maintenance, taking Tumeric daily, and doing resistance training 4 days a week! I hope I can warn off any arthritis for some time!

The doctor told me arthritis triggers diabetes because the body stops responding to insulin, and diabetes triggers arthritis because of the inflammation that diabetes can cause.

@Keith16‍, welcome to Carenity. Great question! Your question is better posed as a separate discussion within the diabetes 2 group. I will create a new discussion for this topic for you.

In the future you can do so by entering into the Diabetes 2 Group --> Living with Type 2 diabetes --> and clicking the create new discussion button at the top.

Glad to hear you are treating prediabetes with diet and exercise!

@clarence1954 clarence i have noticed that the days i push through the joint pain i am eventually able to feel better. IT's almost like you gotta push through it at first but eventually you begin feeling a lot better - only when i stop excersicing for a long time do i get achy to the point that it is hard to work out so i try not to do that. hope this helps!
