I have been a pre diabetic for years and am now type 2 my blood sugar spiked to 180 and I have double vision, my Dr. put me on metformin 500 mg 2 times a day and is hoping my eyes problems correct and my BS lowers. i have never had eye problems before and am wondering if any others have had the same problems and if they corrected once the BS levels lowered to normal range

Hi @yardhound‍ blood sugar - high or low - has the capability to cause vision issues . I am not sure about the permanence of it... I think each case is different and depends on the damage to your eye. Good news if you are pre-diabetic, then hopefully you have not had to many bouts where your blood sugar has been out of control.

Did your doctor seem to think the metaformin would correct the problem?

I do remember seeing others talk about vision issues related to diabetes in the discussions, so maybe browse through or search the forums for "double vision"

Hello everyone,

How are you today? I thought I would revive this older discussion so we can talk about vision issues related to type 2 diabetes! emoticon cute

As you may know, diabetes can put you at risk for eye complications, including glaucoma, cataracts,  retinopathy (damage to the blood vessels in the back of the eye) and macular edema.

Have any of you experienced any eye issues because of your diabetes? If so, what have you done to treat the issue? How often do you see your eye doctor?

Feel free to share any experiences or advice here!

Take care,
Courtney

I have diabetic retinopathy now about 4 or 5 years still stable and early stages. I see my eye doctor for now yearly. Main thing is I must control my blood sugars as best as I can which is difficult now that I have had diabetes for 23 years!
