Hello everyone,

Since the Coronavirus epidemic concerns many Americans (and Carenity members too), I've created this discussion to allow you to talk specifically about the virus in the context of immune system diseases, as we all know that patients can be weakened by their treatments.

Have you received any special instructions from your doctor regarding your care? Are you going to limit your travel? Do you have any advice for others?

Feel free to share!

Take care,

Courtney

I was diagnosed a week before the coronavirus outbreak with a Cd4 count at 9 and viral loads at almost 84.000. I started treatment right away (10 days ago) so needless to say how worried I am with this coronavirus and my weakened immune system. I keep thinking that if I do catch it I most likely won’t survive it. I’m being extra careful and taking all the precautions but my concern is with my roommate (who brags about having a strong immune system) not being careful enough. I live in Manhattan where it can easily spread and I’m worried he’ll bring it home one day. It’s just a lot to deal with

@gymloner1‍ Hello @gymloner1‍, thank you for your comment. I'm sorry you're going through such a stressful time. I think it can be hard for people in good health to realize that their actions and behaviors can have a deep effect on those who are immunocompromised. I hope you can sit down and have a conversation with your roommate so he can understand what he needs to do to help protect you.

For you and everyone else, if you haven't seen it yet, yesterday we published an article that breaks down the coronavirus and the COVID-19 infection and tries to summarize a list of helpful links and information so you can keep up to date. I'll link it below:

Coronavirus: What do you need to know?

I wish you the best in your treatment, please keep us updated with how you're doing in the coming weeks.

Take care,

Courtney

@gymloner1 Hey man, that is REALLY not cool of your roommate! I hope you've been able to TALK to him! He needs to be slapped back into reality! Please be careful and take care of yourself! I think people are starting to get that we need to social distance, so hopefully your roommate will get that too.

@hivver Thank you. I haven’t told him about my diagnosis because we’re not that close and all this is still new to me. He’s not even aware that he’s putting me in danger. For now all I keep doing is disinfecting the house. Everything he touches I make sure that I disinfect it before I touch it and I’m staying away from him as much as possible.

@Jamieson I’m doing okay. Still coping with my diagnosis. As if it wasn’t hard enough to be diagnosed positive with very low CD4 count, it had to happen during this Coronavirus outbreak. I am not in the hospital but my doctors are monitoring me very closely although my first follow-up appointment had to be done over the phone because I can’t risk to go outside. The doctors will have me go back to the hospital in a week or two for some blood work.

Hello everyone, I hope you're all doing well! It's been a few days since we've checked in with one another. How are you doing during the lockdown? Are you staying busy? Is the isolation getting to you or are you staying positive? Feel free to continue sharing with us here! emoticon bashful

recently I had a cold and it was terrible! I was so afraid that I would not have a covid, because I have two daughters and a husband and we would all be at risk of infection! I was very nervous while doing the test. But when everything went well and we got carried away, I had a common cold!
