Hi, I have had NASH for the last couple of years. I quit alcohol sometime ago and I have tried to lose weight by trying to be more active and eating healther. Are there food which can help the liver in particular? I am trying to turn vegetarian as well but it is hard to switch from meat. Normally I don't feel any pain but sometimes when I try to do some physical activitiy like walking or climbing stairs, it hurts near my stomacH. Any tips are appreciated!

Hi @kicknit

How are you today?

Congrats on quitting alcohol, I know that can be a challenge for some people. I will tag a few members to see if they can share any recipes, or suggestions for vegetarian dining, or how they cope with pain.

What does your diet consist of? What have you cut out or limited? Do you get pains when walking or going up stairs? How do you cope?

Feel free to share and get this conversation started!

Take care,

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear about your NASH diagnosis, but it's great to hear that you have taken steps to improve your health by quitting alcohol and making healthier lifestyle choices.

In terms of foods that can help support liver health, there are several options to consider. Vegetables like broccoli, spinach, and kale are high in antioxidants and have been shown to have protective effects on the liver. Other foods to include in your diet are fruits like apples and berries, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats like those found in nuts and seeds.

If you're looking to transition to a vegetarian diet, it's important to make sure you're getting enough protein and other essential nutrients like iron and vitamin B12. Good vegetarian protein sources include tofu, lentils, and beans. You may also want to consider incorporating dairy and eggs into your diet if you're not planning on going completely vegan.

As for the pain you're experiencing during physical activity, it's important to speak with your healthcare provider to determine the cause and possible treatment options. It could be related to your NASH diagnosis, or it could be a separate issue. Your doctor can help you come up with a plan to manage the pain and continue staying active.

Overall, it sounds like you're on the right track to improving your liver health. Keep up the good work and don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare team for additional support and guidance.
