I'm not a child but I feel like I'm going through a breakup like I would have as a teenager. It's earth shattering. It turned my world upside down and even though I know in my head there was no other choice it hurts like hell. We were perfect for one another but at the same time detrimental to each other. We had the same bad habits that made life kinda crazy bc there was no one to put the breaks on. Only he had enough sense to put an end to the madness that had envoloped both of us where I was willing to keep trying to make it work. He was the smart one but I don't understand how it was so easy for him to walk away. I'm still hurting. I'm 53 but my heart is still broken

@LynFromCT That makes me really sad. How long ago was this? My mom made me and my ex breakup, but we still communicate behind her back. We still love each other very much, and it's crazy how you describe your ex, cause mine is the same way. He's the only one who gets me and can put me in my place and deal with my childish bullshit, LOL. When we were together we were silly, freaky, mean, madly in love with each other and exc. Another crazy thing about is that I feel like god made us destine to be together. There has been sooooo many signs and for a while I was just ignoring them, but now I'm letting them in and listening. It's like God was saying, "you've been through enough, here's is someone to take that pain away." We've been through so much together for years. He's 18 and I'm 16, but we were meant to be. No matter how much we fought and got on each others nerves we still were there for each other and always in love. I talk to him on my cousin's phone, and we were texting today which made me so happy. He just came back from Arkansas from his basketball game. That's what he wants to be, a pro basketball player. We got in an argument, but right after he started acting like me when i'm being a "dramatic bitch out of nowhere" LOL, and I was like going off on him, and he said, "see now you know how I feel." LOL, I apologized to him and we said we loved each other. I love when we can get in an argument and then make fun of the dumb stuff we were arguing about.

You might want to check the laws in the state you live in. You might be able to become an emancipated minor. I volunteer in the foster care system, I am legally NOT allowed to give legal advice, so I can't tell you what to do. These are just a few ideas  I would give to anyone.  If your state has a 211 hotline you can try calling them if you want to, they know what resources are available.  School counselors, social workers, teachers, and certain other professional people are called mandated reporters, if you want to tell them what is going on, they have to (or they are "supposed to") call child welfare and try to get you help. I realize that might scare you and keep you from saying anything. That's not at all what I am trying to say, maybe they can help you. The next time your mom hits you, if you feel like it might help people believe you,  and if you can do it SAFELY, take pictures of the bruises as proof, you might want to try that.  But DON'T take pictures if it will cause more problems!!!!  I know child welfare is a broken system and lots of kids fall through the cracks and don't get help they deserve. I am so sorry the system has failed you up to now. I live in Florida, and I know our child welfare system sucks. I know you say you only have two more years at home, but is there any place you can go that is safer for you? I really do care and would like you to be safe. Please think about talking to someone who can help you. I will be thinking positive thoughts for you.

@DebbyL Thank you DebbyL, I've been talking to Kenszie and Courtney the administrator and I told them the same thing.   The system is broken beyond repair just like the healthcare system.  It's broken in New York and here in Chicago, it's totally useless and apparently the same where Kenzie is in Louisiana.  Kenzie's mother is highly abusive, has taken her room away and is making her sleep on the floor in the hallway.  She's taken her phone away and has basically deprived her of her civil liberties.  She can do this because of her age and because the system can't help her out.  Her mother's abuse is totally disheartening and I wish she could be taken out of there and placed in a safer environment.  She seems to be a very strong person but she shouldn't have to deal with this.  This country should be ashamed of the way teens like her get treated by abusers.  Getting off my soapbox now.

Hi again Kenzie:I understand your frustrations with the system. I wish (more than you know) that I could fix it for you and all the other kids that fall through the cracks (more like sinkholes) in the system. Have you tried talking to a domestic violence agency/shelter? Maybe they can help you. Do you have any friends whose parents would let you stay there if you want to? Just a suggestion: if you are going to try to wait until you are 18 and leave; start working on a plan for how you are going to do it now. Being on your own is really difficult, and it takes planning to do it safely and effectively (housing, food, transportation, job or college or both, money, etc.) I am really glad you are still in school, an education is invaluable in today's world. Question: do you want me and others on this blog to keep making suggestions or would you prefer we just let you vent and be silent? I know sometimes when I have a problem, I want answers and sometimes I just want to blow off steam. Either way, there are people who care about you. Be safe.

I am not sure where you are in Louisiana, but I looked online and there are pro bono lawyers in Louisiana. Pro bono means free (sometimes they are very cheap.) Depending on where you are the organizations are called NWLA Pro bono project, near Shreveport. The pro bono project near New Orleans and the Central Louisiana pro bono project near Alexandria. You can Google them. There might be other ones too. Maybe a lawyer can help you, if you want to call them.

@DebbyL I'm not in school anymore, it's online now cause of COVID, but I'm not reaching out to anyone. I have enough shit to deal with right now, I can't handle anymore.
