I know I lost plenty of weight, but I still cannot eat.  I feel hungry, but still can not eat.  I feel my ribs sticking out of my chest, but still cannot eat.  I know this is the worst thing I can be doing, getting no nutrition and vitamins, but..............Any suggestions on how I can make myself eat?

Hi @PeoplewithPaws‍, thank you for sharing what you've been going through. How are you doing? Are you still having problems eating? Is it caused by the treatments you're undergoing? Let me tag some other members who can possibly share with you.

Hi everyone, how are you today?

Have any of you also had problems eating while in treatment - be it loss of appetite, nausea, etc.? If so, how do or did you deal with it? Is there anything you can do to make food easier to eat or more appealing? What has worked for you?

I had a time during chemo when I had a hard time eating. Nausea, sore mouth, nothing tasted ok. Bleah!! But losing weight wasn't ok either. I realized that I needed to eat, even if what everyone else was having was not going to work for me. And I realized that small servings were going to work better for me, so I stocked up on single serving containers of things like yogurt, pudding, fruit cocktail, applesauce, jello and such things. Also fruit like bananas, watermelon, grapes. Instant oatmeal, scrambled eggs, string cheese were some other things that seemed tolerable. And the small serving sizes made them less overwhelming. And whenever it was a mealtime I would eat one of these things, rather than try to eat what everyone else was eating. It helped slow down the weight loss that was happening and got me through the few weeks until the last round of chemo was over and my mouth felt better and things started to taste better. I hope some of these ideas may help you get through this tough time. And better times will come back, so hang in there!!

i have lost 30lbs and it’s very difficult to eat during chemo. Everything tastes bland and mouth sores, nausea and feeling full instantly don’t help. What does help is very tiny/micro meals for me...super small meals thru day and a lot of them. I use a small ramekin as a bowl and eat as many times as I can. I find tart or slightly spicy flavors are easier to taste (since most things taste like cardboard to me—like Cranberry juice and lemon jello). I’ll also do a protein drink (muscle milk or carnation breakfast milk as they taste almost like chocolate milk to me). I don’t eat/drink the whole thing at once (I can’t)...but even a little helps. Sometimes I commit to just a few bites of “something” to get calories in. Good luck. My heart goes out to you.
