Hello everyone,

If you haven’t already seen in the news, many countries in Europe and elsewhere in the world are starting to discuss or put measures in place to end the COVID-19 lockdown.

The White House recently released guidelines for reopening the nation in three phases to be implemented on a state-wide or regional basis. Before initiating the phased comeback, states must satisfy the following criteria:

  • have a downward trajectory of flu-like illnesses and COVID-like symptoms within a 14-day period
  • have a downward trajectory of documented cases and positive tests within a 14-day period
  • be able to treat all patients without crisis care and have a “robust testing program” in place for at-risk healthcare workers

The three phases run from continued remote work and physical distancing for vulnerable individuals, to schools reopening and nonessential travel resuming. The last phase of the plan allows vulnerable individuals to participate in public interactions and permits employers to staff work sites without restrictions. For more details on the individual phases, you can take a look at the proposed plan here.

Is your state preparing to end its lockdown? Do you think it’s too early? What do you think the impact will be on people with chronic illnesses?

Feel free to share your thoughts below!

Take care,

Courtney

I hope everyone is doing ok, I've been staying pretty much to myself through all of this. It'll be interesting to see if there'll be a second wave with what's been going on, I think many have been being smart and wearing mask when they can. Hope you all are doing well and staying as safe as you can!

I seldom comment on this topic any more but as I feel that I'm in some disagreement with most I'd thought I'd add a few thoughts... The virus is indeed real but not that unusual historically. Look at the number of deaths caused by the flu in any given year..the numbers are big. I wear a mask when I'm around others and feel that washing my hands often is at least as important.. However my growing concern lately is the deepening recession and collapse of the economy if the lockdown continues. I can't imagine what this disaster would be like and I doubt that most people alive in this country can either... and that's because we've been so blessed with so much.. Obviously we can't print more money and we can't keep giving out stimulus $$ when things slump... Money needs to be put in (taxes, etc.) before it can be distributed to anyone but that's obvious. My point? We have to use sensible precautions re. this virus every day but we'll have to move on and get busy again. I have no immune system to speak of yet as I've just finished 6 mos. of chemo so of course Covid19 would be fatal to me. But I see no real options as sliding into 3'rd world status seems like no choice at all.

@Driggs09    Excellent comment. I could not have said it any better. We have to balance the virus with the economy. It can be done both ways.
