Hi everyone,
Hope you’re doing okay today.

We wanted to bring up an important issue that could directly affect many members of our community, especially those living with chronic conditions who depend on home care services.

New York City is currently preparing to vote on a bill that would ban 24-hour shifts for home attendants. If passed, it would mean that overnight care would be divided into two 12-hour shifts, aiming to protect the health and dignity of caregivers. Supporters of the bill say the current 24-hour shifts place too much strain on workers, physically and emotionally, without enough support or compensation. At the same time, many worry about how this might affect continuity of care or costs.

As someone who might rely on home care yourself or for a loved one, your voice and experience are important in this conversation.

💬 What do you think about this change?

  • Have you or your loved ones ever had a caregiver working a 24-hour shift?
  • Do you feel that changing this rule would improve the quality of care or disrupt it?
  • What kind of care schedule do you think is safest and most respectful, for both the patient and the caregiver?
