I don’t have a chronic illness, but it’s not hard to make new friends

I will admit that it is very tough having a neurological disease and no way of curing it is truly disturbing. What helps me with my sanity is having my wife and kids. They help in a big way.

I think it does. Especially with people who don't have any issues. I have a hard time making plans because I honestly don't know how I'll feel until I get out of bed in the morning. Sometimes I just have to cancel.

Since I have a trach in my neck and wear a knitted bib to cover it, I have to strain to be able to speak. When I do the sound is low. People I don't know I seperate into two groups. One group is I see the compassion and kindness in them and they will speak back to me. The second group will look at me in fear and i can tell they feel uncomfortable to speak with me. Like I have a mental handicap too. They fear me cause if I show them my trach it really scares them. It shouldn't. It's only a piece of plastic in my throat so I can just breathe. You get use to it after awhile. I also have a permanent feeding tube. I really miss eating and drinking. But my advice to anyone with disabilities just IGNORE people who are rude or condescending to you. It's not worth getting upset over. Life goes on, you have to push forward with a good attitude and strong faith in God no matter what life throws at you.

I do find it hard to make new friends. probably the hardest one for me, is i am incontinent, and have to wear adult diapers. That makes it hard to explain if i need to, but most of the time it is hidden. I have a couple other chronic issues that also complicate that. Sometimes it is easier online to make friends, as i am usually in a group that has a rough understanding of what i am going through

Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Living with a chronic illness can sometimes make it difficult to maintain social connections, and for many people, it might also affect the ability to form new friendships. Between managing symptoms, doctor's appointments, and the emotional weight of the illness, there can be days when it feels like there’s less energy or time for socializing. 😔
Some people might feel self-conscious or worry about being a “burden” to new friends because of their health needs. On the other hand, many of us find that chronic illness has helped us develop deeper, more meaningful relationships with people who truly understand and support us. 💙
How about you? Do you find it harder to make new friends due to your condition? Or have you found ways to overcome this challenge and build connections despite the obstacles?
