Hi, I always struggle with my diabetes around the holidays with all the amazing food and the cookies and all that. I try to be "good" but it's so hard sometimes to resist. I feel like it's even harder this year with all we've been through with COVID. Does anyone else struggle this time of year?

@cristonale Hello cristonale, thank you for opening this discussion. I think you're not alone in having a hard time during the holiday season. Let me tag some other members who can possibly share with you!

Hi everyone, how are you? How do you manage your diabetes during the holidays? How do you navigate through the long family meals, abundant sweets and baked goods? Do you have any advice to share?

I've been a diabetic for 5 almost 6 years not counting the pre-diabetic and gestational diabetes when I was pregnant 16 years ago with my son. But I also struggle around sweets, but I also am honest with my endocrinologist about it yea sure not always honest with my regular dr but I should. I guess what I'm trying to say is that that it's alright to have them in moderation and yes I should talk but its okay to have 1 maybe 2 around Christmas and at least u can bring meds and your meter with u or unless you have a insulin pump u can always look up the carbs in what ever u eat. Hope this helps.

@cristonale @Diabeticmom I completely relate. It can be hard, especially when often at family dinners it's not you cooking, so you don't have much choice about what you eat. I agree, I think you can indulge a bit if you want, just in moderation. It's too hard and not fair to deprive yourself. Just make sure you're conscious of your blood sugar and/or plan ahead.
